Training for professionals and others who work or have contact with older adults to recognize the signs and symptoms of abuse and mistreatment and to facilitate intervention.

The Office for the Aging offers many services for the senior residents of Steuben County including, but not limited to, information and referral, nutrition through congregate meals, advocacy, support groups, transportation services, caregiver services, case management, and the Bone Builders and Senior Meal Programs. Bone Builders and the Senior Dinner Clubs are overseen by Pro Action of Steuben-Yates.

Offers information and referral about a variety of needs for individuals who require long term care. Also provides support, respite, counseling, and guidance services for those who are home care givers, including a range of services and varying levels of assistance for those who are long-term caregivers. Also provides a monthly support group with dinner and respite services.

The Caregiver Resource Center is a “one stop” service point addressing problems facing caregivers by offering information, training and support to caregivers of the elderly. The center works closely with other County and non-profit agencies to make the service network more accessible and responsive to caregivers.

NAMI Basics is a free, six-session education program for parents, caregivers and other family who provide care for youth aged 22 or younger who are experiencing mental health symptoms. All classes and materials are offered free of charge.

Provides a free publication (available in various languages) featuring smart ways to make a home comfortable, safe and a great fit for older adults. 

Offers kit containing items such as: bright warning stickers (hot, poison, turn-off when done), daily medication dispenser, resource directory, caregiver's guide to Alzheimer's disease, soothing musical tape to help reduce patient anxiety, patient information sheets, medication recorder pocket reference, etc. Free to caregivers. Also offers Veteran's Caregiver Support Kit.

Provides monthly education and training programs for individuals, families and care partners. Offered are a basic overview of Alzheimer's disease, an intense six-week education and support program for person who are newly diagnosed and their care partner, numerous workshops for families, monthly forums and three regional conferences as well as other topic-specific programs.

Provides practical care strategies, stress relief, available community resources, how to handle family issues, as well as hands-on care.

Provides assistance for individuals caring for someone ages 60 years and older with significant impairments of daily living. Services include counseling, training, information and assistance, support groups, and respite care. Materials/videos are available to borrow from the Caregiver's Resource Center.

Provides non-medical services needed to enable older persons to remain at home, delaying care in long-term facility or nursing home.
