Care giver training provide training to people who would like to become care givers. Students meet 1 time a week. This is a 12 week program.

The Caregiver Resource Center is a “one stop” service point addressing problems facing caregivers by offering information, training and support to caregivers of the elderly. The center works closely with other County and non-profit agencies to make the service network more accessible and responsive to caregivers.

NAMI Basics is a free, six-session education program for parents, caregivers and other family who provide care for youth aged 22 or younger who are experiencing mental health symptoms. All classes and materials are offered free of charge.

Services including case management, information and referral, counseling, support groups, training and respite have been developed under Title III-E of the Older Americans Act. This program helps sustain family caregivers in their efforts to care for an older relative who has a chronic illness or disability. The Office for the Aging coordinates a variety of services. These services are designed to complement, not replace, family care. Priority is given to caregivers 60 years and older with the greatest social and economic need. Offers health screenings, health education programs and other wellness-related activities that focus on preventing or managing chronic diseases and injuries among the growing population of older adults in the community. The goal is for participants to improve their overall health and well being through increased knowledge. Provides education seminars on a variety of health and wellness topics, medication evaluations, diabetes management, cooking demonstrations, fall prevention, hearing evaluations, health insurance/financial information, family caregiver education and stress management.

The Office for the Aging offers many services for the senior residents of Steuben County including, but not limited to, information and referral, nutrition through congregate meals, advocacy, support groups, transportation services, caregiver services, case management, and the Bone Builders and Senior Meal Programs. Bone Builders and the Senior Dinner Clubs are overseen by Pro Action of Steuben-Yates.

Training for professionals and others who work or have contact with older adults to recognize the signs and symptoms of abuse and mistreatment and to facilitate intervention.

Offers information and referral about a variety of needs for individuals who require long term care. Also provides support, respite, counseling, and guidance services for those who are home care givers, including a range of services and varying levels of assistance for those who are long-term caregivers. Also provides a monthly support group with dinner and respite services.

Provides assistance to informal caregivers, spouses, adult children, other family members, friends and neighbors, in their efforts to care for an older person who needs help with everyday tasks. This can include certain aspect of personal care, such as, bathing, dressing, and grooming, as well as, housekeeping, errands, grocery shopping, providing meals, transportation, home repairs, financial support, emotional support and companionship as well as short term respite care within the home. Maintains a resource library for information for caregivers as well as age-related diseases.

Provides a free publication (available in various languages) featuring smart ways to make a home comfortable, safe and a great fit for older adults.
