Recruits, screens and matches trained volunteers in one-to-one friendship relationships with adults receiving mental health services. Program is based on the concept that a volunteer's friendship and support can offset the loneliness and isolation of mental illness. Volunteers meet with their matched friends a minimum of 4 hours a month at a time and place of their choosing to share social, recreational, and educational activities. Compeer offers programs for children and youth called PAL and Circle of Friends programs to match children and adolescents receiving mental health services identified with social support needs with a mentor.

Offers one-to-one mentoring for school-aged youth at-risk of failing in school, dropping out of school, or becoming involved in delinquent behavior. The goal is that of reinforcing the youth's self-esteem, self-worth and reinforce positive self-image, bolster positive motivation and character development through a positive role model example. Our mentors serve as a friend, coach and guide to mentees with a commitment to offer support, encouragement and to nurture positive ideals. Participants meet weekly for at least one hour. Mentors commit for at least one year and are required to undergo a screening process that includes FBI criminal history, driving record, child abuse and sexual offender registry checks. Mentors are also required to attend an initial 2-hour training prior to being matched. Call for further information.
Programs featuring weekly workshops and field trips that are designed to empower young girls and promote academic excellence and social behavior. After school program is for 6th-8th grade, summer program is for ages 6-12.
A collaborative partnership of public and private organizations dedicated to serving children at risk and their families. Main goals of this program includes readiness for school by six (6) years of age and continuing educational success. Program includes Pre-K Mentoring Project, Advantage Schools After-School Program, Juvenile Mentoring Program (JUMP), Conference Learning Center, Dual Language Parenting Skills Training, The Clothing Exchange and Building for Success Job Bank.

Provides a prevention program that promotes low-risk choices for students and reflects the attitudes, behaviors, and values of healthy lifestyles. Peer Educators are trained to facilitate on-campus and off-campus presentations that deal with alcohol and other drugs, general wellness, violence prevention, and sexual health. Coronavirus Update as of 3/18:YWCA Cortland will close its main facility and all programs to the public at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17 until further notice. Its Aid to Victims of Violence (AVV) program will continue to provide critical services by appointment only unless in an emergency. The Crisis Hotline (607-756-6363 or 1-800-336-9622), will remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as usual. Families in the Bridges for Kids program should feel free to contact Mindy Gardner, YWCA's Mentoring Director, by email at [email protected] if they are experiencing needs in the home Mentoring program for children, ages 5-12, living in stressful home situations. Trained adult volunteers and matched with a child; the pair meets once a week for enrichment experiences to help build self-esteem and resiliency skills.Activities range from playing a board game to miniature golfing to cooking a nutritious lunch. There are also monthly group activities open to all families of enrolled children.
* Provides linkage and community support for individuals seeking inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient services for eating disorders treatment.
