ABLE is a an innovative educational program designed to provide authentic, hands-on learning opportunities. Aligned with NYS learning standards and curricula, ABLE provides exploratory extension opportunities beyond traditional classroom settings. ABLE utilizes WAP, which incorporates evidence-based practices to increase physical fitness, critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, and leadership skills.

Provides free legal services and referrals to Latina women in abusive relationships. Also offers a workshop, the first for Latina women, Talleres de Liderazgo, that is a free five-week course, taught in Spanish only, on leadership and basic legal rights training. Topics include domestic violence, access to medical care and education, and legal rights as workers, parents and spouses. Legal services available to Suffolk County residents.

This program offers comprehensive training to help girls develop critical thinking skills that will enable them to become powerful leaders and effective advocates for change. Girls are introduced to community advocacy, racial justice and other issues affecting youth, while developing effective communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Offers a program that is designed to provide HR practitioners with the necessary knowledge to make informed management and policy decisions. Certificate credits may also be used to fulfill requirements in either the Master of Science in Human Resource Management or Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program offered through the School of Professional Development, or the Master of Business Administration offered through the College of Business. (Be advised that not all courses count for both programs. Students should compare the degree and certificate requirements prior to enrolling.) Offers girls ages 5-17 years old and residing in Suffolk County the opportunity to participate in girl scout troops. Troop levels include Daisy Girl Scouts, Brownie Girl Scouts, Junior Girl Scouts, Cadette Girl Scouts, Senior Girl Scouts and Ambassador Girl Scouts. Troop programs are educational and recreational based activities.

Provides a program in a structured environment with positive alternatives to delinquent behavior and the opportunity for youth to learn marketable skills through an array of community and individual activities, while building caring relationships and fostering moral and social growth.

The mission of Girls Incorporated of Long Island is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. We provide school and community-based programming that serves the unique needs of girls ages 5-18, living in Suffolk and Nassau Counties. Youth Leadership (YL) is a ten-month leadership enrichment program for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors representing schools throughout our community. The curriculum builds a foundation of leadership skills, an awareness of community issues, an appreciation for diversity and a commitment to lifelong community service.

The Urban League of Long Island, Inc. enlists the support of our auxiliary organizations towards the fulfillment of our civic engagement and leadership empowerment goals. The Guild and GenNext are comprised of community volunteers who serve as a base of support for the Urban League of Long Island. These individuals engage in community service and professional development activities with the overarching goal of promoting and fulfilling the mission of the Urban League Movement on Long Island.

Serves as a statewide voice for more than 700 boards of education. Provides current information and advice on matters affecting school boards. Cooperates with other educational and related organizations to promote excellence in education. Provides advocacy information, leadership development and custom services to public school boards.

A program which aims to encourage youth to engage in healthy behaviors early in life that reduce preventable chronic diseases, unwanted pregnancy and the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases. The youth participate in workshops and various activities, community service projects which help to build leadership skills and to help build up their community.

Offers a nine-month leadership development program, with three main components: Finding Your Passion, Nonprofit Learning and Executive Leadership Development. The curriculum also provides a thorough understanding of nonprofit board responsibilities and key management tools to help graduates become a valuable resource for a nonprofit. After completing the program, graduates have the capability to be highly-skilled leaders to assume positions of influence and impact, particularly as board members for nonprofit agencies.

Offers programs which will help enhance social responsibility and leadership skills. Provides community service projects, field trips, guest presentations, prevention focused lessons, social events, and more.

Hosts an annual conference for families and service providers, offering trainings and educational workshops. Attends various conferences and other events exhibiting and distributing information.

The youth councils are run by teenagers with the mission to empower teens to have an active voice for issues such as health care, mental health, youth programs, and social services, and to be part of the planning process. The councils develop and promote a countywide youth agenda and serve on community committees dealing with substance abuse, teen sexuality and youth violence. They receive training from professionals and participate in county and national conventions and conference.

Offers summit that provides training and information to high school students on becoming school and community leaders. Participants collectively identify the priority issues that are facing youth today, and discuss these in a small group forum with elected state and county leaders.
