Provides assistance to post-adoptive, informal kinship and post-guardianship families so that children may be cared for in their own homes with their adoptive parent(s) or legal guardian(s).

Reports can be made anonymously, but helpful for local child protective investigators to have someone to contact. All reports referred back to local social services which has time limit on follow-up and to file report as to whether allegations are indicated or unfounded.

Responsible for investigating all allegations of Child Abuse and Neglect received by the Department from the New York Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, part of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Anyone can make a report of Child Abuse and/or Neglect if he/she is suspicious that a child (0-18 yrs of age) is being neglected or abused. The source of the report as well as the report is kept confidential. The source can be anonymous if the reporter is not mandated by law to report. Workers provide casework counseling, transport, mediation, crisis intervention and, sometimes, financial management.

Helps interested individuals go through the fostering or adoption process and provides information and supports for families with foster or adopted children in the home.

Orange County contracts with Merakey to provide crisis intervention, casework support, parent advocacy, housing advocacy, economic independence referrals, courtesy home studies, and information and referral information for families in need of assistance.

Provides home-based case management services to families with children experiencing challenges that may lead to safety risks.

Provides case management services to assist families in staying together when a child is at risk of entering foster care and/or to hasten the return home of children in foster care. May include referrals for supportive services such as child care assistance (income guidelines may apply).
