Little Explorers - Audubon Community Nature Center

Program is designed for children 3-8 explore and learn about nature with an adult. During this program there is a brief lesson, nature walk, snack, and craft. Each month, the visitors will learn about a different nature based topic.

CONNETQUOT RIVER STATE PARK PRESERVE | CONNETQUOT RIVER STATE PARK PRESERVE

Seeks to protect and preserve natural habitat which is home to a variety of plant and wildlife including waterfowl, osprey and white-tailed deer. Preserve also offers 50 miles of hiking, horseback riding (by annual permit), cross country skiing and nature trails, as well as fly fishing (with permit). The 32 mile Long Island Greenbelt Trail passes through the preserve. A museum and gift shop are also part of the preserve. TACKAPAUSHA MUSEUM AND PRESERVE | TACKAPAUSHA MUSEUM AND PRESERVE

Offers an historic and beautiful 84-acre sanctuary of oak forests, ponds, streams, small mammals and scores of bird species, all of which can viewed via five miles of clearly marked trails. In addition, the preserve incorporates a 3,000-square-foot museum with displays about the ecology of Long Island, as well as animal exhibits and shows and interactive activities for children. SOUTH SHORE NATURE CENTER | SOUTH SHORE NATURE CENTER

A 200 acre preserve which stretches to the shores of the Great South Bay. It contains mature upland forests, freshwater wetlands, vast salt marsh, and an extensive network of trails and boardwalk. It also houses a Visitor's Center which provides interactive exhibits and collections of both live animals and mounted wildlife specimens and dioramas. The Nature Center is operated by the Seatuck Environmental Association through a partnership with the Town of Islip, which owns the property together with Suffolk County and The Nature Conservancy.
