SLED HOCKEY PROGRAM | CNY ADAPTIVE SPORTS

Provides a sled hockey program, similar to ice hockey with the exception of the equipment. Participants use a specially designed sled that sits on two ice hockey skate blades; two short hockey sticks are used to propel across the ice. Available for participants of all ages and abilities.

ADAPTED SPORTS AND RECREATION | HELEN HAYES HOSPITAL

The Adapted Sports and Recreation Program at HHH is a four-season program that provides access to and education about adaptive sports and recreation activities for individuals of a wide range of abilities. The program is open to both former patients of the hospital as well as individuals with disabilities within the community. Adapted activities offered during the year include gardening, handcycling, skiing, rowing, sailing, kayaking, rock climbing, softball, basketball, yoga, therapeutic horseback riding, and more. All activities are held in the New York Metropolitan region.

Provides clubs and social groups for developmentally disabled persons, including Special Olympics for developmentally disabled persons ages 18 and older.

Provides therapeutic ice skating lessons for the disabled of all ages. Lessons are held weekly and culminate in an annual ice show which all students perform in. Lessons are held in 4 different locations, 7 days a week. Skates, helmets, and walkers are provided for skaters. Also offers adaptive ice hockey available for current SABAH athletes who can skate independently, turf summer sport programs, recreational ice skating in the summer, and the Fit and Fun program which provides a physical education program for adults challenged by disabilities. Center for Allied & Unified Sport & Exercise (CAUSE) - Daemen University

The Center for Allied and Unified Sport and Exercise (CAUSE) at Daemen College provides opportunities for people with disabilities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience the camaraderie and sportsmanship that comes with athletics participation. CAUSE hosts four FREE, 90 minute sports sampling sessions each week for individuals with disabilities. All participants are matched with a Daemen College student as a partner for the session. Various sports and exercise activities are run by Daemen College student athletes. Sessions will run during the academic year on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, along with two sessions on Sunday afternoons during Fall 2019. CAUSE also hosts half-day summer camp sessions for a small fee.

Williamsville Youth Center

Offers licensed after school and recess camp programs, adult/youth tennis year round, swimming lessons, water aerobics (year round), lap swim (year round), after-school gym programs, toddler programs, Badminton (year round), adult floor hockey, basketball, volleyball and dodgeball, youth basketball lessons, open basketball, and floor hockey. Playground and playmobile (mobile playground) available on site. Concerts in the parks and various special events offered during the year. Programs available for both adults and youth with disabilities, including social programs, and Special Olympics training in basketball, track, and swimming. Crafts available year round for adults, and swimming offered in summers for youth. Services also available for dropouts and first offenders. Offers drug abuse prevention programs. Higher Ground New York Veterans Program

Works to enhance quality of life for United States military veterans, service members, and families through therapeutic recreation and education, collaboration with other service providers, and a sustained continuum of care. Uses therapeutic recreation and adaptive sports to help facilitate a change in perspective and give participants the physical skills, confidence, and coping strategies necessary for a successful reintegration process.
