CENTER FOR ITALIAN STUDIES | STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY

Has become an integral part of the Italian and Italian-American community on Long Island. Its mission is multifaceted: First, to stimulate interdisciplinary research by the local academic community on issues that encourage a better understanding of Italy and of Italian Americans; Second, to become a national and international focus for Italian and Italian American affairs and Third, to promote a better understanding of Italy and of Italian Americans by bringing the latest scholarly findings on Italy and Italian Americans to the general public as well as by organizing cultural activities of general interest. The Center for Italian Studies takes pride in its efforts to focus both on scholarly endeavors as well as cultural enrichment for the community. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE | MICHAEL J. GRANT CAMPUS

Offers three ESL programs for students who are non-native speakers of English and may require specialized English language instruction. The three ESL programs offer instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar to students for whom English is a second language. The ESL programs include both part-time and full-time developmental classes on a noncredit basis* and a third program which offers developmental classes on a credit** basis. The aim of all three programs is to provide limited English-proficient students with a functional knowledge of the English language. The programs furnish students with the necessary communication skills to secure gainful employment, perform more effectively in daily life situations, and enroll in further college-level courses, if they so desire. Students should be aware that all ESL courses, credit or non-credit, are considered developmental. Therefore, they do not fulfill any degree or certificate requirements. LANGUAGES | MOLLOY UNIVERSITY CONTINUING EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

In partnership with Ed2Go, offers many non-credit online language courses in such areas as: Speed Spanish, Spanish for Medical Professionals, Beginning Conversational French, Conversational Japanese, Instant Italian, and many more. These six-week online courses are the perfect way to learn a new skill or enhance your existing ones. You'll need to spend roughly two to four hours each week completing two engaging lessons in an enjoyable, interactive learning environment. Expert instructors develop and lead every course. However, the course is not conducted "live". You are able to log-in at any time to take your lessons. New sessions start every month, so you can sign up anytime.
