Offered together The Hofstra University/LIHSA summer partnership provides an unparalleled experience for students in Grades 7-12 to be guided by faculty mentors and staff who understand the unique needs of young artists. These classes are held on the LIHSA campus. LIHSA’s facilities are specially designed to support the school’s mission. LIHSA’s 38,000 square feet across three buildings are filled with professional workspaces and facilities. It is situated on 4.5 acres in Syosset Long Island, with plenty of courtyard space to have a picnic lunch and draw artistic inspiration. With four dance studios on campus, a larger theatre that holds 350 audience members with lighting and sound equipment, two smaller black box theatres, an audio-recording studio, numerous classroom spaces, practice rooms, art studios, film editing room, dark room, digital music space and a carpentry shop for scenic design, it is a great place to spend for a young artist to spend their summer. Programs are flexible; choose to enroll in a one week offering or combine several to be on campus for all four weeks. The Center provides a wide array of classes in dance, music, fitness/wellness, theater, spoken word, computer arts technology and the visual arts. These classes are offered after school, evenings and weekends at our main site in midtown Kingston. A homework and tutoring center is also available. Programs include S.P.I.C.E, a year round project for low income women and their children (provides childcare at the center if needed to participate) with a special focus on women of color.

Offers a summer music camp that provides the opportunity for young children to learn how to play the violin or to enhance their ability of those who already play. Also provides the opportunity for children, who are beginners to music, can choose an instrument and learn to play, and for children who have some music experience to enhance their abilities or to learn a new instrument.

Provides individual and small group instrumental (Piano, Trumpet, Trombone, Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone & Drums) and voice lessons for children ages 7-13. The children are taught by talented high school, college, and community musicians. Through our Youth Mentorship Program, the youth instructors themselves learn leadership, responsibility, and teaching skills by professional musicians and music educators who serve as mentors and guides.
Provides young musicians the opportunity to study and perform under professional direction and guidance. Consists of three fully instrumental symphony orchestras, a chorus and a wind ensemble.

Offers an amazing public high school program that has transformed the lives of young emerging artists from across Long Island through both its high school and summer programs. LIHSA is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Under New York State’s “4+1” pathway assessment option, students must take and pass four required Regents Exams or Department Approved Alternative assessments and complete a comparably rigorous pathway to meet the fifth assessment requirement for graduation. Students can now do this with completion of the Career and Technical Education-approved exam and the core sequence of classes at LIHSA. Courses are offered in Performing Arts; Visual & Digital Arts; Scenic Construction & Production Technologies; Sonic Arts; Game Design; Multimedia Journalism; 3D Animation and Expressive Arts and Human Development.
