FAMILY CAREGIVER SUPPORT SERVICES | SUFFOLK COUNTY OFFICE FOR THE AGING

Services including case management, information and referral, counseling, support groups, training and respite have been developed under Title III-E of the Older Americans Act. This program helps sustain family caregivers in their efforts to care for an older relative who has a chronic illness or disability. The Office for the Aging coordinates a variety of services. These services are designed to complement, not replace, family care. Priority is given to caregivers 60 years and older with the greatest social and economic need. Steuben County Office for the Aging (SCOFA) | Steuben County Office for the Aging (SCOFA) (Admin Site)

The Office for the Aging offers many services for the senior residents of Steuben County including, but not limited to, information and referral, nutrition through congregate meals, advocacy, support groups, transportation services, caregiver services, case management, and the Bone Builders and Senior Meal Programs. Bone Builders and the Senior Dinner Clubs are overseen by Pro Action of Steuben-Yates.

Provides a support group for caregivers of those diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The group allows caregivers to share concerns, ideas, and simply support each other through difficult situations.

Provides a Caregiver Support Group for family caregivers of elderly residents in the community or health care facility, and a Widow/Widower Support Group for people having difficulty during the adjustment period after the loss of a spouse.

Social adult day care program for physically and/or mentally impaired adults that offers support, supervision, stimulation, and socialization for clients, along with respite and support for caregivers. Provides supportive counseling for family caregivers through Family Services of Jamestown. Support group meets at Christ First United Methodist Church, 663 Lakeview Avenue, Jamestown.
