Girls on the Run of the Southern Tier (GOTRST) | Steuben Rural Health Network (SRHN) - Main Site

Provides an experiential learning experience for girls in grades 3-5 and 6-8 through combining training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The girls meet after school for 10 weeks and conclude each season with a community service project of their choice and a 5K celebratory run. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviors. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual, and physical development. Donations are accepted to help provide scholarships to participants.

Provides leadership skill training for students in grades 6, 7, 8 at Oregon Middle School. This program is conducted from October through June. The goal of this program is to improve academic success by introducing topics of time management and goal setting to students and by fostering empathy and community through school projects. The focus is on cultural diversity, self-esteem, stress relief, and healthy relationships. It includes anti-bullying skill development. Students participate in at least one community service, business or local agency experience per month.

AFTER SCHOOL CHILD CARE PROGRAM | HISPANIC BROTHERHOOD OF ROCKVILLE CENTRE

Offers an after-school program and full day child care, during school vacations including the summer, for children ages 5-17 residing in the Town of Hempstead. Homework assistance is provided by volunteers with an emphasis on reading, expressive and receptive language skills, mathematics and concept development. Recreational activities and snacks are provided. Collaboration with local schools is encouraged by the program coordinator and bilingual staff. Older students (ages 13-17) may serve as program volunteers, translators or participate as interns in local businesses. On-site child care.
