Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) | CASA of the Southern Tier

Provides child advocacy services to children who have been abused or neglected, including accompanying them to their court hearings and other meetings as appropriate to help speak on the child's behalf. Trains volunteers to serve as a neutral third party to Family Court Article 10 proceedings (abuse and neglect cases). A CASA Advocate can only be assigned to a case by a Family Court Judge.

MENTORING ACADEMY | MENTORING PARTNERSHIP OF LONG ISLAND

Provides training and orientation for individuals who wish to start a mentoring program in accordance with the Elements of Effective Practice. Academy also trains individuals who wish to serve as mentors during monthly evening trainings that are open to the public. Special workshops for mentors and program personnel are scheduled from year to year which share new information in the field of mentoring or new tools and resources that are available. All classes provide a variety of customizable tools and resources. The Academy hosts a Mentoring Conference on the campus of L.I. University/CW Post Campus that is open to the public which includes a track for coordinators, mentors and youth. Call for meeting times and additional information.

COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES (CASA) | MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION IN ROCKLAND COUNTY

The CASA program provides advocacy for youth and adolescents who are in family court proceedings involving abuse and/or neglect. Volunteers complete a 30 hour training followed by 12 hours of continuing education yearly to work with this vulnerable population. The goal is to achieve safe, permanent homes for the children/youth. A supervised visitation program provides visitations in the community to participants in the Rockland Family Treatment Court. Home studies are conducted for custody and visitation cases ordered by Rockland Family Court judges.

MENTOR REFERRAL | MENTORING PARTNERSHIP OF LONG ISLAND

Responds to requests from volunteers to be referred to mentoring programs. Screening refers volunteers to programs matching their geographic and demographic preferences. Provides an orientation class, Mentoring 101 to let you know what to expect and how to get started. This two-hour class prepares you to mentor. An entirely volunteer-run program that was developed to fill an unmet need in northern Franklin County. The program provides friendship, companionship, and a helping hand to older residents, serving as their advocates and helping them stay connected to their communities.

VOLUNTEER RECREATIONAL AND SPORTS PROGRAMS | BACKYARD SPORTS CARES

Offers an array of athletic and recreational programs for children from economically challenged areas and children with special needs. It has also been adapted for inclusion in half a dozen onsite after school programs in the area. Peer Mentor Volunteers (8th-12th graders) are trained by Zoom and must commit to volunteering for a minimum of one full 6-week session. Each volunteer is paired with the same student for an hour each week of the 6-week session.
