Meals are delivered Monday through Friday by volunteers who check on participants each day. Meals on Wheels volunteers are needed to deliver meals once a week, Monday - Friday, between 11am and 1pm. You can sign up to be a driver, visitor, or both. Routes are available in various locations throughout Broome County including Binghamton, Chenango Bridge, Conklin/Kirkwood, Harpursville and Whitney Point. Volunteer drivers receive a mileage reimbursement.NOTE: (For service to Endicott, Johnson City, Town of Union, Vestal, and Maine, see Meals on Wheels of Western Broome.)

Counselors taught income tax preparation and computer operation by IRS-trained AARP Tax-Aide volunteer instructors. Commitment runs from Feb 1st to April 13th. Volunteers with knowledge of computers and 1040 Tax Forms do both federal and state income taxes. Classes for volunteers begin on Jan 3rd.

Offers comprehensive crisis intervention for domestic violence, rape, sexual abuse, and other crime. Services include: safe confidential dwelling for domestic violence victims, short-term counseling, and 24-hr toll-free confidential hotline. Medical, legal advocacy and accompaniment as well as information and referrals.

Thrift shop provides low cost apparel, bedding, linens, books, toys, games, kitchenware, small kitchen appliances, etc.Donations accepted. Does not accept upholstered furniture, mattress, television and computers.

Provides community meal every Tuesday for those in need. The meal usually consists of a vegetable, salad, entree, dessert, and a choice of beverage.

Combines a museum, gift shop, community meeting hall and banquet facility.

* Provides a mentoring program for at-risk-youth that offers both community-based and school-based programs. Volunteers are high school students.

Recruits volunteers from the Ithaca and Cornell communities to translate and interpret in emergency and non-emergency situations. Individuals proficient in English and a another language are certified by TIP to serve translators/interpreters for community agencies. Certification includes: passing certification test by a language professor attending mandatory workshop about potential emergency and cultural situations signing a confidentiality agreement protecting the privacy of client and agreeing to have their information available on the TIP website for agency useOrganizations signing an agreement with TIP can seek translators through the online database. In emergencies, the Public Service Center can be contacted for assistance during business hours.

Troy Boys & Girls Club has opportunities available for volunteers in almost every capacity. Working with children in their groups during after school programs (mentoring, tutoring), providing specialized programs for youth and teens (arts/crafts, science, technology, dramatic arts, dance, career exploration, job preparedness), administrative support (data entry, database management, prepare mailings, office assistant, etc.), capital improvement projects, and much more.

Transportation is available for eligible older adults and people with disabilities to reach their doctors, run errands, and more. A Medicaid transportation provider.

Volunteer Opportunities for Certified Sexual Assault Counselor with New York State Department of Health: free training provided by agency.

Offers an alternative to a nursing home, hospital, or at-home care for terminally ill persons. Offers 10 beds in private rooms. Open to all regardless of religion, race or financial resources. Residents receive quality care in a home-like environment that includes: 24-hour care as an alternative to nursing home, hospital or at-home care Private bedrooms with cable TV and telephone Home-cooked meals Library and Chapel Open visiting hours for family and friends

The Paul Schreurs Memorial Program (PSMP) offers academic, personal, emotional and social support through a variety of activities including, advocacy, tutoring, mentoring, and community service. These efforts engage youth participants who are marginilized or under-served and provide opportunities for them to experience success and be confident life-long learners.

Provides trip planning and referral services, transportation education, case management, transportation to health care services, transportation to employment, and travel training to individuals in need. Some services are based on need.

Offer shelters, respite care, adoption and other services for companion animals and even certain farm animals to persons who are victims of domestic violence.

Parenting Skills: eight hands-on, interactive sessions to foster family communication skills, such as encouragement, can do, choices, self-control and respecting feelings. FREE classes, snacks and childcare. Parenting Styles: 7 weeks, sessions on parenting styles and discipline, child development, cultural influences and environmental issues. Parenting Skills Facilitated Visits: pairs parenting educator with parent(s) and children working with the Tompkins County Department of Social Services' Children's Services Unit. Parenting Educator Facilitator Trainings: annual session for those using the curricula to increase quality parenting education in our community. Tompkins County Coalition for Families: ad hoc group of organizations and citizens creating a supportive community for children and families. Tompkins Families! Community specific programming in Dryden, Enfield, Groton, and Newfield. TF can also serve other communities in addition to the ones listed here. Thriving with Your Spirited Child: a seven week program with information about temperaments. Develop effective strategies for dealing with temper tantrums and power struggles.

Provides legal services through the Committee on Courts of Appellate Jurisdiction of the New York State Bar Association in appeals in the Appellate Division, Third Department through the pro bono attorneys. Appeals Program representation will be limited to family and matrimonial law issues, including family offenses, custody and visitation, divorce, paternity, and termination of parental rights. Not included are appeals addressing only the amount of child support awarded under the Child Support Standards Act.
