Administers the Urgent Rx Program. Uninsured patients are identified for vouchers for generic medicine from a formulary. Vouchers provided at the Ithaca Free ClinicVouchers are for acute conditions and medications for no more than fourteen (14) days.If an individual DOES NOT receive an Urgent Rx voucher with his/her prescriptions at the time of discharge, he or she must contact the location which issued the prescriptions to verify that the medications are covered by Urgent Rx.Prescriptions can be filled ONLY in Tompkins County at specific pharmacies listed on the voucher.Medications for chronic conditions, e.g., diabetes, asthma, cancer, heart conditions, are not covered.NOTE TO CALL SPECIALISTS: If a caller needs help in obtaining medication for chronic conditions, refer him/her to the Community Health Advocates Program of the Human Services Coalition or to Needymeds.org or Rx Outreach.

Offers clinical, operational or administrative volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are asked to make a commitment of 50 hours over a period of three months, whether as a learning opportunity for students or merely as a way of giving back to one's community. Clinical assignments in our residential and community-based programs may include participation in our recreational program, agency-sponsored events and leisure and relaxation therapy. Volunteers also provide one-to-one attention to our program participants, such as reading a book, taking a person for a walk, or simply serving as a "big brother or big sister." A volunteer is selected on the basis of individual interest, skill, and experience.

Volunteers help clean the shelter, do laundry, care for the cats and socialize the cats. Additionally, there is gardening work and painting, on an as needed basis. Volunteers are welcome on a regular schedule or whenever available even if only for a few hours. Help is needed to clean and feed the cats from 9:15 a.m. to noon, prior to the opening to the public. Socialization of the cats happens beginning at noon.
