**THIS AGENCY HAS DISCONTINUED SERVICES AS OF MARCH 14, 2025** HOSPITAL ADVOCACY-After 40 hours of training, volunteers become advocates for child victims of sexual abuse and/or assault and adult survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence. Volunteers are asked to serve a minimum request of 2 shifts (8am-8pm or 8pm-8am) per month to assist victims at any of the local Nassau County hospitals. Nassau County residence and a valid driver's license are required. CHILD VICTIM ADVOCATE PROGRAM-Volunteers help reduce system induced trauma for child victims of abuse and their non-offending family members when involved with the Family or Criminal Court systems. COURT ADVOCACY-Trained volunteers spend one day per week at the Nassau County Family Court or Criminal Court offering assistance, support and information to persons who seek Orders of Protection, and other court assistance in family violence matters. Training is arranged on an ongoing and individual basis. PRO BONO PROJECT- The Safe Center LI Pro Bono Project seeks to recruit pro bono attorney's and provide the training and resources necessary to successfully present victims of domestic violence in civil legal matters. COMMUNITY OUTREACH-Volunteers work to advance the cause against family violence and sexual assault through awareness and education. Volunteers represent the agency at health and/or information fairs. SPECIAL EVENTS-Volunteers are involved in supporting fundraising and other special events/functions throughout the year to assist in activities related to these events such as: mailings, solicitation of goods, services, journal ads, etc., as well as staffing assistance at these events. OFFICE WORK-Volunteers work with the clerical/administrative staff as needed to support various office duties such as mailing, filing, copying, answering phones, and other general clerical functions. CHILD WAITING ROOM-Volunteers provide oversight of the Child Waiting Room as family members receive agency services. Oversight can include reading to smaller children, assisting school-aged children with homework, playing a game with kids, and attending to specific needs.

Trains community volunteers to provide accompaniment and support to victims of domestic violence who are attending court dates or other social service appointments, as well as other agency volunteer opportunities as needed.

CVAC volunteers generally fill two vital roles; answering our 24/7 support line, and providing medical advocacy to the local area hospitals. To do so, volunteers must apply and be able to complete our 40-hour rape crisis counselor training. Upon completion, volunteers will become certified NYS Rape Crisis Counselors through the Department of Health. Trainings are generally offered in the fall and the spring, and occasionally in the summer.

Volunteer-based programs offer a way to really make a difference in the lives of community residents, while at the same time providing information that you will personally benefit from. Volunteer opportunities offer flexible hours, free training, and ongoing support.

May provide services to men who are victims but is not able to accommodate them in the safe dwelling, but referrals are made for other options. Accept clothes, baby furniture, and/or household items for families of domestic violence.

HOTLINE OPERATORS: Must commit to at least one 4-hour shift per week, after 5pm weekdays or any time weekends. Calls are forwarded to volunteer's home. Extensive training required. SHELTER AIDES: Provide creative playtime for children, assist staff with shelter chores, sort donations, other tasks as needed. SPEAKERS BUREAU: Represent the LIADV at health fairs and fundraising activities/events, as well as make educational presentations to community groups. OFFICE ASSISTANTS: Answer phones, help with mailings, filing, data entry. STUDENT INTERNSHIPS: Number of positions open and departments may vary per semester. Please inquire within if interested.

Provides case management, parenting program for fathers, healthy relationship workshops for individuals and/or couples, peer mentoring, job readiness coaching and economic stability/mobility services, domestic violence prevention education, and program support services (e.g. transportation assistance, employment-related participant support cost). Offers volunteer programs based in Westchester and Manhattan. Volunteers work under the supervision of professional staff, with individual children, groups or in support of administrative functions. Volunteers are based in all JCCA settings long- and short-term assignments and flexible schedules may be arranged. Assists in filing for crime victims compensation, accompanies clients to court, police interviews, and court hearings.

Program offers individuals an opportunity to volunteer to assist staff members with advocacy, clerical, fundraising, and prevention program events. Volunteers must complete a 12-session training program which is offered in the fall and spring; certificates are awarded.

Offers a training program that provides guidance and direction in job readiness, personal organization and life enrichment for survivors of domestic abuse. The program's mission is to end the cycle of violence by providing continued support and tools necessary for economic and emotional self-reliance.
