Support services provided to current open-heart surgery patients by individuals who have successfully recovered from open-heart surgery. Visit post-surgical patients one to two times per week. Offer a telephone support line (HeartLine) , a semi-annual newsletter and meetings focused on health related topics, special events (trips, outings and dinners).

Hospice exists to provide specialized end of life care for those who are suffering from an incurable illness or disease with an prognosis of 6 months or less so that they might live as fully and comfortably as possible.

Provide volunteer opportunities ranging from interacting with people who have developmental challenges to supporting the chapter's fund raising activities. Areas for interaction include: accompanying staff and individual on medical appointments and on outings into local communities assisting one-on-one in the vocational training program being a SPECIAL FRIEND to someone living in an AHRC group home, assisting with leisure activities and areas of fund raising activities.

The Healing Circle Improv/Arts visits and performs for oncology patients, their families and friends in the hospital and at home. The group creates improvisational pieces that dramatize people's feelings and thoughts. Participants also have the opportunity to learn a variety of art skills from painting to multimedia.

Hospicare volunteers make a difference in three areas: Patient Support, Hospicare Ambassadors, and Community Support.Patient SupportPatient Support volunteers help patients and families with everyday needs like light household chores, shopping, transportation, and companionship-primarily in the patient's home. Volunteers also support our 6-bed residence by helping prepare and serve meals and offering companionship. Specially trained and/or professional volunteers may also provide bereavement support, music, massage, or pet visits.Training & commitment: Patient Support volunteers complete a required 20-hour training, commit to 2-4 hours per week for at least one year, and participate in ongoing education and support meetings.Hospicare AmbassadorsAmbassadors partner with Hospicare staff to increase awareness in Tompkins and Cortland counties. If you enjoy connecting with people, this role is a great fit.
