THE PLAYERS | MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF NASSAU COUNTY

Offers performances by an improvisational theater group which explores the myths and realities of mental illness. Features vignettes about family conflicts, stigmas, divorce, troubled teens, group homes, living with the mentally ill, suicide, homeless and more. Discussions are led by a professional mental health facilitator. Performances may serve teenage programs, senior centers, community groups, church groups, professional meetings, etc. Appointment required. Call for more information.

Westbrook Preparatory School is the first residential New York State Regents junior/senior high school for students with Asperger syndrome, high functioning autism and related conditions who require intensive support in a year-round school setting. Offers a therapeutic, residential experience integrated with an academic program individually attuned to each student’s unique strengths and challenges. Teaches independence while preparing them for post-secondary education, employment and life in the community. Day students may be referred by their school districts.

Community physicians, with the help of the staff, provide chronic disease management, wound care, therapy, recreation therapy, and diet/weight management programs one to five days each week. Light breakfast, hot lunch and snacks are provided. Transportation is available.
