Maintains the Wantagh Museum and engages in other activities to improve the historical and environmental values of the community. The WPS is responsible for maintaining the museum grounds that include: Old Wantagh Rail Road Station; “Jamaica” Parlor Car and Recreated 1904 Wantagh Post Office. In addition to being open on Sunday afternoons from mid-April to mid-October, the Museum hosts many special events throughout the year. Hours are subject to change, as the Museum is staffed by all volunteers. The museum grounds are open all year round from dawn until dusk. Call for detailed information.

The museum depicts the history of East Rockaway from the time it was built in 1688 to the end of the 19th century.
Exhibits a 1858 one room schoolhouse which has been restored to its original working condition. Visitation by appointment only.
Seeks to protect and preserve natural habitat which is home to a variety of plant and wildlife including waterfowl, osprey and white-tailed deer. Preserve also offers 50 miles of hiking, horseback riding (by annual permit), cross country skiing and nature trails, as well as fly fishing (with permit). The 32 mile Long Island Greenbelt Trail passes through the preserve. A museum and gift shop are also part of the preserve.
