Maintains the process and changes in the Town's natural environment, seeks to protect the ecology of delicate areas (i.e. the Pine Barrens, the water supply, shellfish grounds) while balancing residents' needs for development of residential and commercial areas. Maintains the Mt. Sinai Harbor Marine Sanctuary and Visitors Center where shellfish farming is undertaken.

Many of our venues are open to the public and showcase the talents of our students and professors to the greater community. The Steinberg Museum of Art is hailed by The New York Times for its impressive collections, Steinberg Museum of Art at Hillwood serves as an integral part of the cultural resources at LIU Post. Each year the museum features exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations and symposia to enrich, inform and educate our students, the Campus and local communities. The Hutchins Gallery, located in the lower level of the Library, is a magnificent exhibit hall that showcases the sculpture and painting of local artists, faculty and students. The Student Art League Gallery Located in Hillwood Commons, displays the artwork of undergraduate and graduate art students. Exhibits range from one-person shows to small group exhibits, and include displays of ceramics, paintings, mixed media, multi-media and photography. Call for more detailed information.

CENTER FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN UNDERSTANDING | AMMERMAN CAMPUS

Educate our community on historical events, and to promote issues of social justice and respect for human dignity through educational programming. Our vision is of a world in which each person can live in peaceful coexistence and pursue a life in freedom and dignity, and in which our citizens reflect upon their moral responsibilities. In addition to programs and events, we offer tours of our Holocaust museum which houses the largest collection of Holocaust artifacts in the region. The CSJHU office and Gallery are located in the Huntington Library on the Colleges Ammerman Campus in Selden, NY. Guided tours are available for classes and groups. The Centers staff also arranges diversity and intercultural programs that focus on social justice issues and promote themes of coexistence, tolerance, and respect for differences.
