Maintains the Wantagh Museum and engages in other activities to improve the historical and environmental values of the community. The WPS is responsible for maintaining the museum grounds that include: Old Wantagh Rail Road Station; “Jamaica” Parlor Car and Recreated 1904 Wantagh Post Office. In addition to being open on Sunday afternoons from mid-April to mid-October, the Museum hosts many special events throughout the year. Hours are subject to change, as the Museum is staffed by all volunteers. The museum grounds are open all year round from dawn until dusk. Call for detailed information.

TACKAPAUSHA MUSEUM AND PRESERVE | TACKAPAUSHA MUSEUM AND PRESERVE

Offers an historic and beautiful 84-acre sanctuary of oak forests, ponds, streams, small mammals and scores of bird species, all of which can viewed via five miles of clearly marked trails. In addition, the preserve incorporates a 3,000-square-foot museum with displays about the ecology of Long Island, as well as animal exhibits and shows and interactive activities for children. POLLOCK-KRASNER HOUSE AND STUDY CENTER | POLLOCK-KRASNER HOUSE AND STUDY CENTER

Sponsors programs on art and art history for the scholarly community and for the general public. Houses research collections on the art of Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner and their contemporaries. Located in East Hampton, the center is open to the public: May to October; Tuesdays-Sundays. The center, a National Historic Landmark, is operated as an historic site and research facility, and consists of the artists' house, their studio, and the study center containing the art reference library. Offers a magnificent 216-acre park, including its historic mansions and the Phil Dejana Learning Center. The Conservancy provides year-round educational and cultural programs, seasonal celebrations, mansion tours, fitness activities as well as private/corporate event services and film/TV location facilities. AMAGANSETT HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION | AMAGANSETT HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION

Exhibits local history and presents programs on local history of Amagansett from the Colonial period through the 20th century. Consists of Miss Amelie Cottage Museum and the Roy K. Lester Carriage Museum exhibiting locally made 28 horse-drawn carriages. Call for schedule and fees.

SOUTH SHORE NATURE CENTER | SOUTH SHORE NATURE CENTER

A 200 acre preserve which stretches to the shores of the Great South Bay. It contains mature upland forests, freshwater wetlands, vast salt marsh, and an extensive network of trails and boardwalk. It also houses a Visitor's Center which provides interactive exhibits and collections of both live animals and mounted wildlife specimens and dioramas. The Nature Center is operated by the Seatuck Environmental Association through a partnership with the Town of Islip, which owns the property together with Suffolk County and The Nature Conservancy.

Collects, preserves, and exhibits objects and documents about the whaling industry and whale conservation today and about Cold Spring Harbor and Long Island maritime history for its diverse public and school/group visitors. There are self-guided tours on tapes for French, German, Italian, and Spanish speakers. Provides a Speakers Bureau which presents on topics dealing with maritime history, whaling, biology, marine mammals, and other related topics. Publishes newsletter titled A Whaling Account. CENTER FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN UNDERSTANDING | AMMERMAN CAMPUS

Educate our community on historical events, and to promote issues of social justice and respect for human dignity through educational programming. Our vision is of a world in which each person can live in peaceful coexistence and pursue a life in freedom and dignity, and in which our citizens reflect upon their moral responsibilities. In addition to programs and events, we offer tours of our Holocaust museum which houses the largest collection of Holocaust artifacts in the region. The CSJHU office and Gallery are located in the Huntington Library on the Colleges Ammerman Campus in Selden, NY. Guided tours are available for classes and groups. The Centers staff also arranges diversity and intercultural programs that focus on social justice issues and promote themes of coexistence, tolerance, and respect for differences.
