LONG ISLAND HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS | LONG ISLAND HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS
Offers an amazing public high school program that has transformed the lives of young emerging artists from across Long Island through both its high school and summer programs. LIHSA is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Under New York State’s “4+1” pathway assessment option, students must take and pass four required Regents Exams or Department Approved Alternative assessments and complete a comparably rigorous pathway to meet the fifth assessment requirement for graduation. Students can now do this with completion of the Career and Technical Education-approved exam and the core sequence of classes at LIHSA. Courses are offered in Performing Arts; Visual & Digital Arts; Scenic Construction & Production Technologies; Sonic Arts; Game Design; Multimedia Journalism; 3D Animation and Expressive Arts and Human Development. Call LIHSA for admissions requirements. In addition to classes for students LIHSA’s campus is available for rental space. Our 38,000 square feet of studios and workshops across three buildings are filled with professional workspaces and facilities. We have four dance studios on campus, a larger theatre that holds 350 audience members with lighting and sound equipment, two smaller black box theatres, a recording studio, numerous classroom spaces, practice rooms, art studios, film editing room, darkroom, digital music space and a carpentry shop for scenic design. Houses approximately two million books, special exhibition rooms for rare and valuable materials including the Mark Twain Room, the Collections Gallery and the Rare Book Room; a computer training lab; and the Launch Pad MakerSpace; plus a host of centralized administrative and support operations for the entire 37-site Library System.
Maintains a newly renovated 301-seat fully accessible auditorium, as well as three meeting rooms and other indoor and outdoor spaces that may be reserved for meetings/public programs by non-profit organizations and businesses. Onsite author visits, children's programming, book clubs, movies and technology training classes and demonstrations are regular happenings at the Central Library.
