Participates in all phases of emergency management including hurricane preparedness, hazardous materials mitigation, and any and all natural or man-made disasters that affect the town. It is part of FEMA Hurricane Preparedness Program, and in times of emergency, fully integrates with federal, state and county agencies in providing disaster relief, emergency evacuation and housing and transportation for dislocated residents.

Actively involved in all phases of preparedness for natural and man-made disasters. Coordinates drills conducted with local fire and police departments and other emergency responding agencies. In time of emergency integrates response with federal, state and local agencies. Maintains a Townwide Communications Center which is the hub of Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in time of emergency. Operates the Auxiliary Police Unit.

Responsible for protecting all town-owned property and the citizens using these facilities. Also oversees the town's abandoned vehicle and park watch programs. Maintains a comprehensive disaster plan through the Emergency Management Office.

Provides information on how to deal with and recover from natural emergencies such as hurricanes. Those requiring special medical assistance during a storm should notify East Hampton Town's Department of Human Services at 324-4947. Shelters are open to the public and will be announced on WLNG-92.6FM, 1600AM, WEHM-96.7FM, WBEA-104.7FM, and WBAZ-101.7FM.

Provides planning, training, resources, response, warning, coordination and information through communications to the public, elected officials and public safety agencies to assist them in preparing for, responding to and mitigating emergencies and disasters which affect the residents of Broome County.

Maintains and continually updates a comprehensive disaster plan which ensures the safeguarding of all Islip residents during natural and manmade disasters.
