READY Genesee is designed to help citizens learn how to protect themselves and their families against all types of hazards. The focus of the content is on how to develop, practice, and maintain emergency plans that reflect what must be done before, during, and after a disaster to protect people and their property. Also included is information on how to assemble a disaster supplies kit that contains food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity for individuals and their families to survive following a disaster in the event they must rely on their own resources.

Prepares the Cattaraugus County Health Department and county residents to effectively respond to a public health emergency. Works to provide education and awareness programs to help residents and healthcare professionals become well informed on public health issues and threats and how to respond to such situations.

Operates the MERS Control emergency services dispatch center and coordinates ambulance responses for the City of Buffalo, New York State Thruway throughout Erie County, and the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Responsible for supporting operations of the county's Hazardous Materials/WMD Response Team (ECHMRT), Erie County Medical Reserve Corps and Western New York Stress Reduction Program. Operates the County-run Ambulance Service. Provides outreach through the Reach out to 911 program. EMS Staff responds to emergencies and disasters around the county including MCI-Mass Casualty Incidents, School Bus accidents and those events requiring specialized emergency medical services and/or coordination of EMS resources.

Practices continual surveillance and preparation for potential man-made or natural public health emergencies. Examples of such health emergencies include: Bioterrorism; Influenza and Hurricanes. While emergencies can occur on a county-wide scale, they can also occur at a local level and may involve small groups of individuals. Examples include: Home Heating Assistance; Carbon Monoxide Exposure; Chemical Exposure and Public Inquiries. Contact the Suffolk County Department of Health Services during normal business hours or in the event of an emergency, after normal business hours and weekends.
