READY Genesee is designed to help citizens learn how to protect themselves and their families against all types of hazards. The focus of the content is on how to develop, practice, and maintain emergency plans that reflect what must be done before, during, and after a disaster to protect people and their property. Also included is information on how to assemble a disaster supplies kit that contains food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity for individuals and their families to survive following a disaster in the event they must rely on their own resources.

Prepares the Cattaraugus County Health Department and county residents to effectively respond to a public health emergency. Works to provide education and awareness programs to help residents and healthcare professionals become well informed on public health issues and threats and how to respond to such situations.

Provides training and support to the county's first responder community as a division of the Erie County Department of Health. Coordinates CFR-Certified First Responder and EMT/AEMT-Advanced/Emergency Medical Technician training for volunteer and paid emergency medical care providers. Provides paramedic training. Operates the MERS Control emergency services dispatch center and coordinates ambulance responses for the City of Buffalo, New York State Thruway throughout Erie County, and the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Responsible for supporting operations of the county's Hazardous Materials/WMD Response Team (ECHMRT), Erie County Medical Reserve Corps and Western New York Stress Reduction Program. Operates the County-run Ambulance Service. Provides outreach through the Reach out to 911 program. EMS Staff responds to emergencies and disasters around the county including MCI-Mass Casualty Incidents, School Bus accidents and those events requiring specialized emergency medical services and/or coordination of EMS resources.

Practices continual surveillance and preparation for potential man-made or natural public health emergencies. Examples of such health emergencies include: Bioterrorism; Influenza and Hurricanes. While emergencies can occur on a county-wide scale, they can also occur at a local level and may involve small groups of individuals. Examples include: Home Heating Assistance; Carbon Monoxide Exposure; Chemical Exposure and Public Inquiries. Assists local governments, volunteer organizations and private industry through a variety of emergency management programs. These programs include hazard identification, loss prevention and training, operation response to emergencies, technical support, disaster recovery assistance, and in times of an emergency/disaster, will coordinate the response of all State agencies, ensuring the most appropriate resources are dispatched to the impacted area.

Offers a federally funded, community based volunteer program that provides training and on-going education to better prepare communities and individuals to respond to emergency/disaster situations. When an emergency/disaster happens, CERT members can provide immediate assistance to their community and give critical support to first responders using a coordinated, collaborative and organized effort. CERT members can also help with non-emergency preparedness projects that can help improve the overall safety and quality of life in their community. This Office prepares for and responds to public health emergencies. It works closely with the Medical Reserve Corps, and with County, State and regional agencies to coordinate responses to disasters.

Provides the training, preparation and lead for disaster-related situations. Trains professionals and volunteers to mobilize during disasters or emergency events. Also prepares and collaborates with other agencies and personnel as to the disaster plans. Takes the lead during a disaster, guiding agencies and emergency personnel on the appropriate action to take. Manages an Access & Functional Needs Registry (voluntary, confidential list of residents who may need extra assistance, transportation or a place to stay if emergency evacuation is required).

Offers services to schools in providing guidance and support to deal with issues of loss and grief among students. Services include training, workshops on loss and grief for students and staff, consultations with teachers, guidance staff and students, resource materials, and assistance with bereavement group sessions for students.

Provides financial assistance, casework & recovery planning which includes health, mental health & spiritual care services, for fires and other disasters; provides disaster relief for larger scale disasters such shelter, distribution of supplies and reunification.

Offers training courses for those individuals looking for jobs in the emergency response field, such as Emergency Medical/Ambulance Services, Fireman or Disaster Response. Also offered are CPR or other basic emergency classes for the general public, families, and employers/employees.

Offers various emergency/disaster education courses, those which offer full certification courses, those geared to emergency or health care professionals, others for schools, and seminars for the general public.

Primary responsibilities include emergency planning and management, fire service and EMS coordination, and training of first responders. Works in the field and "behind the scenes" at most large events in the county and during disaster response and recovery.

Works to develop and maintain countywide plans to meet resident and community needs in the event of a public health emergency including disease outbreak, natural disaster, or external threat.

Extensive planning efforts have been undertaken to ensure that our public health staff and the community's first responders are fully prepared for any type of emergency that has the potential to impact the health of the public.

Assists local governments, volunteer organizations and private industry through a variety of emergency management programs. These programs include hazard identification, loss prevention and training, operation response to emergencies, technical support, disaster recovery assistance, and in times of an emergency/disaster, will coordinate the response of all State agencies, ensuring the most appropriate resources are dispatched to the impacted area.

Serves as a liaison for and facilitator of emergency response training. Provides emergency planning, preparedness, response and recovery efforts during an emergency also has listings of hazardous materials. Assigns house numbers so residents can better be located in an emergency.

Offers courses in First Aid, CPR, AED, Baby Sitting, Water Safety and Workplace Safety programs, and Disaster Response and Preparedness.

Provides training on issue-specific traumas and the trauma of catastrophe. Offers long term support training of local caregivers information on coordinating disaster/crisis response, intensive consultation by phone/fax deployment of crisis response team anywhere in the United States. Federal agency responsible for the National Response plan in emergencies, preparedness for emergencies, secure borders and local/national threat levels.

Provides courses to train individuals who want to become EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) or in fire emergency management.

Offers various health related educational and support services including Emergency Management Training (EMT), CPR instruction, various wellness programs and support group meetings.
