Links parents in need of child care with appropriate child care centers, group family child care homes which are licensed by the state, family child care homes which are registered with the state, legally-exempt family child care homes, Head Start programs, school-age child care programs, summer camps, nursery schools, and pre-K programs. Recommendations or endorsements of a particular facility are not made, but the council educates parents about how to evaluate the facility/program according to individual needs. Provides information on financial subsidies and how to find quality child care.

Provides walk-in or phone-in help for individuals and families experiencing a wide variety of needs, such as temporary emergencies for food, utility shutoffs, potential loss of housing or other essential resources. Offers community advocacy, supportive counseling and linkage to other Family Service League programs, as well as government and community agencies.

Maintains a comprehensive database of Health and Human Service agencies and programs and also functions as one of the primary sources which links these services to the providers in the community, including disaster or weather related or information, such as road and bridge closures or other problems caused by the weather or other natural disasters.

Team members also distribute kits with clothes, non-perishable foods, blankets, and toiletries to individuals living on the street. HealthConnect is Stony Brook University Hospital's telephone helpline, providing valuable information to assist you in making informed healthcare choices. HealthConnect will help you find the care you need-simply by calling. Speak directly with a registered nurse or other specially trained healthcare professionals who will listen to your concerns and help you find answers to questions. HealthConnect provides the information you need to make educated choices about urgent or routine medical care, preventive medicine, or support services. And, a state-of-the-art computer network means that you will receive access to the most current information available.
