An outreach program to help improve and maintain personal health and environmental living conditions. The goal of the program is to promote healthy neighborhoods by keeping residents aware of the variety of medical, social and environmental services available to them locally. Outreach staff visit residents, at the residents request, an inspection of their home is also performed to be sure that no environmental health hazards or problems exist. If environmental health hazards or problems do exist, our staff will direct them to the agency best able to help.

Provides education and support to persons suffering with gluten intolerances, celiac disease, dermatitis herpetiformis, and gluten sensitivities. Also supports doctor education, medical research, and community awareness to make a gluten free diet easier to follow and help Celiacs to live healthy lives. Meetings are held Wednesdays at 7:30, September-November and March-June at the West Islip Senior Center.

Offers education and public awareness about child abuse in a variety of methods, including online resources, brochures, and info cards, teaching about issues leading to child abuse and its prevention.

Offers a variety of services for the seniors in the local community who need help with benefit applications, advocacy for different issues, outreach to help seniors who are homebound and need help with various tasks. Also provides assistance to grandparents who are raising their grandchildren, such as counseling, advocacy and with school supplies, clothing, and more.

Provides individual, couple, group, and family counseling for people who are using or have a history of substance abuse and their families. Also offers substance abuse preventive programs in the community.

Officers assist parents with possessing up-to-date photographs with detailed information about their child which can greatly assist law enforcement when responding to a disappearance. These cards contain the child’s full name, date of birth, gender, height, weight, hair color, eye color, and more. The card is made in less than ten minutes and can be carried in the parent’s wallet or pocketbook. Operation Safe Child ID Cards are offered by the Sheriff’s Office free of charge at community events, libraries, and firehouses across Suffolk County. An outreach program that focuses on the Latina community, and to help those who are victims of domestic violence to get the help and support they need, including follow-up services.

Provides cessation support, referrals and information to callers who wish to quit smoking or obtain information related to cessation and tobacco use. Callers may speak to trained information specialists or leave a message during off-hours to have their phone call returned by a specialist. They may also order a free smoking cessation guide to be mailed directly to their home or listen to a taped message library that provides information about quitting smoking.
