NEW YORK COURTS COMMUNITY OUTREACH INITIATIVE | NEW YORK COURTS COMMUNITY OUTREACH INITIATIVE

Provides a series of programs designed to enhance the public's knowledge of and confidence in the New York Court System. Outreach services are provided to foster partnerships between the courts and local governments, community and civic groups, schools and the legal profession. Programs and events include: Court Tours and Speakers Bureau, Justice for Seniors, Media seminars, Domestic Violence Awareness, Careers Day, NYS Fair, Court Open House Day, Juror Appreciation Week, and National Jury Summit. Services include classroom visits, educational videos, court user brochures and mentoring. Representatives go into schools to provide workshops on topics such as drug court, careers, court jurisdiction and structure. Initiatives to continue beyond 2000 include tours of facilities, mentoring programs and workshops.

THE Q CENTER | ACR HEALTH

Provides a safe space for for LGBTQ youth to gather and receive support from caring adults through case management services, HIV, STD and Hepatitis C testing, mental health assessments, referrals for LGBTQ affirming clinical services, and referrals to LGBTQ affirming health and human service providers. Offers after school programming and support groups for youth, parents and families.

SENIOR NEIGHBORHOOD ADVISOR PROGRAM | WESTCOTT COMMUNITY CENTER

Provides one-on-one advocacy and referral services for older adults, to assist them in obtaining the services they need to remain independent in their home setting. Promote awareness of community services, make referrals, and connect older adults with services like SSI, SNAP, or HEAP. Assist with locating needed services, such as health care, legal advice, transportation, housing, nutrition, exercise, socialization, and caregiver information.

MIGRANT EDUCATION TUTORIAL AND SUPPORT SERVICES (METS) | CENTER FOR INSTRUCTION, TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION (CITI)

Provides migrant students in Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, and Wayne counties with educational and support services including in-school and/or in-home tutoring, summer tutoring, educational field trips, family literacy, preschool education, outreach, interpretation and advocacy.

Offers on-site English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in migrant labor camps and for out-of school youth ages 16 to 21 years.

Provides students in grades 7th through 12th with activities designed to promote career awareness, explore post-secondary options, perform community service and develop leadership skills.

OPERATION SAFE CHILD ID CARDS | RIVERHEAD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

Officers assist parents with possessing up-to-date photographs with detailed information about their child which can greatly assist law enforcement when responding to a disappearance. These cards contain the child’s full name, date of birth, gender, height, weight, hair color, eye color, and more. The card is made in less than ten minutes and can be carried in the parent’s wallet or pocketbook. Operation Safe Child ID Cards are offered by the Sheriff’s Office free of charge at community events, libraries, and firehouses across Suffolk County. To arrange for Operation Safe Child ID cards to be offered at your community event, please contact the Community Relations Office.
