Collects, preserves, and exhibits objects and documents about the whaling industry and whale conservation today and about Cold Spring Harbor and Long Island maritime history for its diverse public and school/group visitors. There are self-guided tours on tapes for French, German, Italian, and Spanish speakers. Provides a Speakers Bureau which presents on topics dealing with maritime history, whaling, biology, marine mammals, and other related topics. Publishes newsletter titled A Whaling Account. Offers quarterly meetings for parents and professionals to answer critical questions faced by young adults as they prepare to leave their educational placements, transitioning from student services to adult services. Provides workshops, and a Speakers Bureau. Meetings are held at 415A Oser Avenue, Hauppauge, NY. Call for times and additional information.

Provides employees in Nassau County departments, clients, and employees in community-based treatment agencies, as well as students, teachers, parents, and the general public educational programs. Trainers are experienced, knowledgeable, and available to provide information on chemical abuse and many health-related issues. Training services vary according to the audience and the topic. For elementary through high school grades, activities include assembly programs, teacher in-service training, and presentations at parent-teacher association (PTA) meetings. Program series can also be arranged on an individual basis at the request of a school district or for college presentations. Information is shared with the general public through public health fairs, distribution of literature, and in response to special requests. For chemical dependency professionals, a training calendar is distributed monthly via email. Call if you have any questions or want to discuss training needs. There is no cost associated with these services. 

Provides parent education programs to community groups. Current programs include: Discipline Is Not A Dirty Word, Understanding Temperament, The Family Table, Building Strong Families, Raising Responsible Children and Teen/Parent Communication. Training and consultation for professionals working with families offered throughout the year.

Conducts workshops/training programs for students, faculty, staff of Long Island schools and colleges. Addresses issue of school safety and other gay/lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth issues. Conducts professional and corporate sensitivity trainings.

VIBS provides speakers on a variety of topics to colleges, community groups and also provides professional training on a variety of subjects. Topics include trauma, domestic violence, sexual assault and abuse. We seek to prevent incidences of these crimes through education and raising awareness.

Designed to inform the communities of Nassau County of the services that are available for our residents. The importance of having this information will greatly assist residents of Nassau County. Program staff from the department are available upon request to travel throughout Nassau County to conduct presentations and informational forums on the various programs offered by the department. All speakers are provided at no charge as a service to the residents of Nassau County.

Provides support and information for patients with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis (also known as IBD or Inflammatory Bowel Disease). These include: hospital visitor, mutual help groups, physician referral service, speakers bureau and peer counseling. Serves both Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Offers workshops on bullying (DASA), relational aggression, cyber safety, child abuse, child abduction, sexual harassment, violence prevention, gender equity, and conflict solving for teachers, parents and students. Licensure training workshops for recognizing and reporting child abuse, violence prevention and DASA for all educational staff requiring NYS Certification.

Provides an education-focused group to assist youth age 12 and under with remedial support. Learning tools include arts and crafts, field trips, guest speakers and discussion groups.
