Develops and offers professional development (training, coaching, and technical assistance) consistent with the New York State Core Body of Knowledge Core Competencies for all modalities of child care (Family, Group Family, Center and School Age). Council offers the New York State Office of Children & Family Services (NYS OCFS) mandated 15 hour Foundations in Health & Safety Training required for registration of licensing of new Family/Group Family providers; recruitment and business practices workshops; technical assistance for potential and new providers of all modalities, Medication Administration Training (MAT) required for those that administer medication to children in their program and The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential for early childhood education professionals.New York State Training and Technical Assistance Professional Credentialed specialists are available with expertise in infants and toddlers, preschool and elementary/middle school development, care and education. Council staff provide interactive in-person professional development at Council as well as at your location (through fee for service) as requested by programs and community agencies. Topics for training, coaching, and/or technical assistance include but are not limited tio all NYS OCFS required topics for the 30 hours of mandated training; child growth and development; responding to challenging behaviors; family and community relationships; culturally responsive practice; observation and assessment; environment and curriculum; health. safety and nutrition; coping with tragedy, trauma and disasters; professionalism and leadership; administration and management; NYS OCFS regulations; national accreditation self-studies; and professional development planning. Program staff from the department are available upon request to travel throughout Nassau County to conduct presentations and informational forums on the various programs offered by the department. Informational presentations are available for all services provided by the Nassau County Department of Social Services. Such services include: Adoption; Adult Services; AIDS Services; Child Protective Services; Child Support Enforcement; Day Care; Domestic Violence; Emergency Services; Employment for Temporary Assistance Clients; Food Stamps; Home Energy Assistance Program; Housing and Homeless Prevention; Medicaid; Medicaid Managed Care; Services to Children and Families; Temporary Assistance and Temporary Assistance Fraud. To have a representative from the Nassau County Department of Social Services speak at your meeting or event is a very simple process. Programs include: Speakers Resource Center, UCPN Repertory Company, Kids on the Block, and Head Injury. Brochures available, call for information. Offers publications including Center Square, the agency newsletter, the Annual Report and brochures describing a wide range of disabilities, including cerebral palsy. The Library of instructional videotapes on such subjects as evaluating consumers for communication devices and feeding, dressing and first aid techniques related to persons with disabilities is available. The Speakers Bureau provides speakers familiar with a wide range of special needs and services for adults and children with disabilities.

Educators provide specially tailored trainings in schools, small businesses, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and corporations. Issues discussed include: racism, Anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of discrimination including sexual harassment, bullying and cyber bullying. Call for more information.

Provides education and training to professionals through conferences, workshops, and on-site trainings. Provides community education including a theater group, to help combat mental illness discrimination. A media resource center, a media showcase for program planners, and a mental health library is available. Offers a school/mental health partnership program, designed to bring a mental health dimension to the school community sponsored workshops for school faculty and parents, and on-site consultations link a school district with a child psychiatrist. All professional training was sponsored under contract to the Nassau County Department of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities.

Provides a soup kitchen for lunch on Mondays through Fridays. Gives referrals for shelter to the needy of Long Island. Offers showers and clothings for those who need. Also houses a clothing shop where donated items are given away. Provides a speakers bureau and will send speakers out to community meetings and local organizations. Open to all.

Provides skilled nursing care, home health aides, personal care aides and homemaker services to the sick, frail, elderly or anyone in need of home health care and/or companion services in the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island and the County of Westchester. This includes, but is not limited to Hospice, EISEP clients, Mental Health and AIDS patients. Medicare patients can be served by Aides At Home in conjunction with one of our contracted certified agencies. Speakers roster with ongoing education for home health care workers.

Provides three types of alcoholism meetings: open, which are open to anyone closed, for members and newcomers affected by another person's drinking and ala-teen, restricted to individuals up to 18 years of age. Special focus meetings are available for women, men, gays, and parents. Anonymity is protected for all members. Nassau County information service can provide pamphlets, meeting lists and al-anon information for clergy and social workers, health and education professionals. Arrangements can be made for speakers to present at schools, health fairs and other institutions. Monthly open meetings are specifically available for clergy, doctors, social workers and general public.

We provide seminars, conferences, and informal meetings to assist these groups in making their services as accessible and inclusive as possible to every member of our society. We will arrange a presentation to your professional association, civic and leadership club, and self-help or advocacy organization. All these services are available by writing to our office explaining the nature of your organization, time and place of your meeting, and disability related topic you would like addressed.
