Maintains a speakers bureau of individuals with brain injuries, family members, professionals and experts in all aspects of brain injury and prevention to educate others in the community about brain injuries. Offers a webinar series, annual conference, and medical symposium.

Provides adult volunteer mentors to youth, both boys and girls, ages 7-14, who may be facing adversity and need additional support. Mentors and youth are matched on a one-to-one basis. They have regular contact over an extended period of time, and may engage in a wide variety of community-based, or site-based activities. The intent is to build positive and beneficial relationships that assist the youth in their development into adults. Volunteer mentors are screened, trained, and professionally supported by a designated case manager to ensure safety and to develop individualized goals based on the youth's particular needs for this relationship. Provides public education regarding the links between common environmental exposures and human health. Creates informational projects including developing and distributing printed materials in-school learning programs, organization of public meetings, and maintenance of an educational web site. Grassroots Healthy Lawn Program teaches natural lawn care for professionals and homeowners. The Child Safe School program provides individuals, school staff, and education professionals with information and resources promoting the use of green cleaning products in schools

Provides a soup kitchen for lunch on Mondays through Fridays. Gives referrals for shelter to the needy of Long Island. Offers showers and clothings for those who need. Also houses a clothing shop where donated items are given away. Provides a speakers bureau and will send speakers out to community meetings and local organizations. Open to all.

Offers workshops on bullying (DASA), relational aggression, cyber safety, child abuse, child abduction, sexual harassment, violence prevention, gender equity, and conflict solving for teachers, parents and students. Licensure training workshops for recognizing and reporting child abuse, violence prevention and DASA for all educational staff requiring NYS Certification.

Provides education and training to professionals through conferences, workshops, and on-site trainings. Provides community education including a theater group, to help combat mental illness discrimination. A media resource center, a media showcase for program planners, and a mental health library is available. Offers a school/mental health partnership program, designed to bring a mental health dimension to the school community sponsored workshops for school faculty and parents, and on-site consultations link a school district with a child psychiatrist. All professional training was sponsored under contract to the Nassau County Department of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities.

Free educational programs are available for schools, nursing homes, health care agencies, social clubs and any other organization that would like to be educated on the topic of epilepsy, seizure awareness, and first aid. Free seminars on a variety of epilepsy related subjects are conducted on a monthly basis for individuals with epilepsy and their family members, caretakers and social workers or any other interested parties. Training hours are available for Medicaid Service Coordinators and CEUs for Nurses. Information and referral services are available to individuals with epilepsy.

Provides speakers to promote health and wellness seminars and workshops, including disease-specific information through various sources, online, printed materials, etc.

Works toward the goals of countering and reducing hatred by fighting Anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry here and abroad, combating international terrorism, probing the roots of hatred, advocating before congress, aiding victims of bigotry, developing educational programs, and serving as a public resource for government, media, law enforcement, and the general public.

Offers various programs designed to educate and increase public awareness on the acceptance of children and adults with disabilities. Programs include: Speakers Resource Center, UCPN Repertory Company, Kids on the Block, and Head Injury. Brochures available, call for information. Offers publications including Center Square, the agency newsletter, the Annual Report and brochures describing a wide range of disabilities, including cerebral palsy. The Library of instructional videotapes on such subjects as evaluating consumers for communication devices and feeding, dressing and first aid techniques related to persons with disabilities is available. The Speakers Bureau provides speakers familiar with a wide range of special needs and services for adults and children with disabilities.

Provides the professional and non-professional communities with education about mental health illness, and links to resources. MHA's website also offers information about mental illness and treatment, information to find a therapist and other support.

Regularly participates in health and wellness events for not-for-profits, schools and businesses. The hospital also offers health and wellness events, support groups and other programs to help meet the needs of our community. As part of our Speakers Bureau, our professional and medical staff speak for free on a variety of health and wellness topics at locations including churches, community centers, senior centers and civic groups. Living Together is a forum for discussion of unmet service needs using advocacy, community education, outreach, lobbying efforts and collaboration with service providers to improve access to care and support those needing services.

Provides professional development for middle and high school teachers with regard to teaching about collective violence (focal case study is the Holocaust) and issues of prejudice, racism, anti-semitism, genocide, and democracy.
