For the past 50+ years, the Hofstra Cultural Center has invited members of the community to join us on campus for our programs, to learn and engage together. The Hofstra Cultural Center hosts numerous events each year that are open to the Hofstra community and the world at large. Sample events offered include: Signature Speakers; Featured Events; 19th Annual Great Writers, Great Readings Series; Donald J. Sutherland Lecture; Science Night Live; Italian American Experience; Issues in Judaism; Joseph G. Astman Cultural Events as well as virtual events. Events vary each semester. Conducts lessons in environmental science for elementary and high school students in East Hampton, Shelter Island, Southampton, Bridgehampton and Riverhead. Lessons take place both in the classroom and in the field. Call for more information.

Provides counseling, education, and empowerment for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. Provides letters and consultations for gender reassignment surgery.

Provides free educational seminars/symposiums to the public so they may have a better understanding of this disease.

Offers an annual conference, Pride Work For Youth, that is primarily for middle and high school LGBTQ and straight students and staff, and also offers a Gay-Straight Alliance summit for students and advisers.

Promotes non-violent conflict resolution techniques to educators, parents and young people workshops on restorative practices, conflict resolution concepts, communication, affirmation, mediation, bullying prevention and intervention, creative problem solving, bias awareness, social emotional learning and mediation services.

Provides a 14-week group program for couples who want to work on their marriages. Involves skill building workshops to develop better understanding, sensitivity, and trust while learning more effective speaking and listening skills. Facilitated by couples who have overcome similar challenges.

MOTC of Suffolk County is a support group for mothers of multiples and expectant mothers of multiples. Services include clothing and equipment exchange, workshops for specific areas of interest and a library. Also hold seasonal parties and outings for moms, children and other family members. Meetings consist of a business meeting and guest speaker or other program. Monthly Newsletter Doubletalk is also published.

Offers workshops, seminars, and conferences on various environmental topics which help educate and give ideas for individuals and businesses to become environmentally conscience in daily/business practices.

Free energy efficiency and financial management workshops are held throughout the service territories. These Workshops are conducted by Cornell Cooperative Extension as part of the Empower New York Program with funding from NYSERDA.

Provides a series of community education programs at the hospital in the Spring and Fall of each year. Subjects are related to family and mental health issues.

Hosts annual conferences on trauma and children, publishes literature to inform professionals and the public, provides training and consultation in a host of related areas to similar organizations. The service is provided by the Sanctuary Institute, a training and consultation service, an evidence-based template for system change, based on the active creation and maintenance of a nonviolent, democratic therapeutic community in which staff and clients are empowered as key decision-makers to build a socially responsive, emotionally intelligent community that fosters growth and change.

Offers workshops on different health issues during different times of the year, dealing with weight loss surgery options, causes of knee and hip pain, nutrition education and many other health issues. Also has speakers to go out and speak to students, professionals, etc regarding specific health concerns or issues.

Provides a year round overnight recreation, social service and rehabilitation program for blind and visually impaired teens (18+), adults, and senior citizens and families with one or more members of any age who are visually impaired. Offers educational programs, Employment and Technology Institute, Consumer Conference, sports, arts and entertainment. Call for an application.

Offers workshops on a variety of business-related topics which impact existing small businesses or on topics impacting those just starting out into their own business venture, such as "Boot Camp for Start-Ups", a fall and spring workshop.

Offers alternative high school programs for students who are at risk of failing, dropping out, or struggling in a traditional school setting. Also available are programs for students with special needs that include other therapeutic services.

Serves as a resource center to assist individuals using the Mary Brennan soup kitchen in obtaining needed services and assistance in becoming self-sufficient. Provides referrals to Social Service agencies including employment, housing, and immigration. Offers workshops for self-improvement including English classes, cooking demonstrations, money management, computer training and health screenings. Provides assistance with clothing and housewares through its boutique.

Offers a number of educational programs on nutrition for every age group along with programs that focus on family relations, child development, and parenting. The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program and Eat Smart New York! programs attempt to help individuals and families with limited resources develop improved diets.

Provides a variety of high quality workshops featuring nationally known presenters for local human service workers, social work professionals, educators, etc.

Offers free lectures on health topics to community members with the objective of educating, raising awareness, improving understanding of risk factors, diagnostic procedures and treatment. Topics may include cancer, diabetes, nutrition, stroke, cardiology and glaucoma. Topics are based on requests from the community, hospital physicians, staff and national health observances and recognition days. Call for more information.

Develops and offers professional development (training, coaching, and technical assistance) consistent with the New York State Core Body of Knowledge Core Competencies for all modalities of child care (Family, Group Family, Center and School Age). Council offers the New York State Office of Children & Family Services (NYS OCFS) mandated 15 hour Foundations in Health & Safety Training required for registration of licensing of new Family/Group Family providers; recruitment and business practices workshops; technical assistance for potential and new providers of all modalities, Medication Administration Training (MAT) required for those that administer medication to children in their program and The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential for early childhood education professionals.New York State Training and Technical Assistance Professional Credentialed specialists are available with expertise in infants and toddlers, preschool and elementary/middle school development, care and education. Council staff provide interactive in-person professional development at Council as well as at your location (through fee for service) as requested by programs and community agencies. Topics for training, coaching, and/or technical assistance include but are not limited tio all NYS OCFS required topics for the 30 hours of mandated training; child growth and development; responding to challenging behaviors; family and community relationships; culturally responsive practice; observation and assessment; environment and curriculum; health. safety and nutrition; coping with tragedy, trauma and disasters; professionalism and leadership; administration and management; NYS OCFS regulations; national accreditation self-studies; and professional development planning. Bilingual (English/Spanish) services are available.

Provide education to workers about their labor and civil rights, including literature explaining employment laws and civil rights law, and distribute these materials to workers and community groups throughout the region.

Provides information and support to caregivers, specifically to individuals who are caring for older persons. Services include caregiver counseling, consultation, and referral; caregiver respite, caregiver support groups, Project Lifesaver, health promotion program, and an information center with books, pamphlets, and brochures.
