Plans, coordinates and evaluates the activities of public, private and nonprofit agency services devoted to youth under age 21 within the town. To accomplish this, the Youth Bureau finds three community-based youth service agencies. They provide counseling, tutoring, mentoring, job readiness, after school program, leadership programs, volunteer activities, drop-in lounge, open gyms and summer day and evening programs. The Youth Bureau also oversees the Islip Town Runaway and Homeless Youth Programs. Room 312.

SOCIAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS | SUNSHINE PREVENTION CENTER FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES

Offers workshop for children ages 5-8 and 9-12 (parents included). This program provides education and support to families. Topics include building healthy friendships, communication skills, understanding and expressing feelings, dealing with teasing and bullies, and more. Discussion groups, creative arts, games and hands-on activities are utilized to increase understanding and strengthen social skills. The Parent Component offers support and guidance to parents, and provides practical skills for helping their child in a variety of situations. Operates tennis clinic offering complete program of eight one-hour lessons for beginners/advanced beginners ages 5 years old to adult. Operates four 12 to 16 hour tennis camps: Junior Development Camp for players with some prior instruction, Advanced Camp for Junior Varsity or Varsity level players, Adult Camp for adults with some prior instruction, and Adult Mini-Camp (shortened schedule).
