LEARNING TO LEARN CENTER | NORTH SHORE CHILD AND FAMILY GUIDANCE CENTER ADMINISTRATIVE HEADQUARTERS
Provides a range of specialized assessments and evaluations of developmental, learning, neurologic and psychiatric issues in children, adolescents, and young adults. Serves any child ages preschool through young adult who is struggling academically and/or experiencing emotional or behavioral problems related to a neuropsychological deficit. Parent and professional education workshops are offered by North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center staff who have expertise in child development and neuropsychology. Offers school consultation to help educators work with children with neuropsychological deficits more effectively.

Offers a team approach (nurses, social workers, therapists and nutritionists) to provide patient/family centered asthma education and manage asthma care at home. Services include medication management, environmental and lifestyle assessment, emergency management and health monitoring through a telehealth program. Works collaboratively with patient's physician to follow treatment plans and manage asthma effectively. Communicates with school health staff and educators as needed to support children attending school.

Acts as a clearinghouse and referral service for information on rare diseases. Maintains a comprehensive rare disease database, which provides families with information on over 1,100 rare disorders. Its networking program links families with other families who are afflicted with similar disorders. Accumulates and disseminates information about orphan drugs and devices, making known their availability. Advocates the needs of people with rare disorders. Provides disease specific medical reports written in lay language. Also offers a Medication Assistance Program for specific drugs and a medical equipment exchange program. Publishes Orphan Disease Update and Resource Guide . Call for more information.

The length of stay ranges from 1-12 weeks, during which time a full academic curriculum is provided by Eastern Suffolk BOCES.

Responds to the needs of developmentally disabled individuals and their families/caregivers who are experiencing a crisis situation. Crisis intervention may include any situation by which a developmentally disabled individual needs an immediate alternative day or residential option, when traditional service delivery models do not meet families' needs and when linkage and referral services are needed to connect the individual with ongoing services which address behavioral, medical, or situational needs.
