To ensure public protection in New York State, the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions (OP) investigates and prosecutes professional misconduct in all professions except medicine. Professional misconduct is the failure of a licensed professional to meet expected standards of practice. Professional misconduct includes the following:

• Engaging in acts of gross incompetence or gross negligence on a single occasion, or negligence or incompetence on more than one occasion
• Permitting or aiding an unlicensed person to perform activities requiring a license
• Refusing a client or patient service because of race, creed, color, or national origin
• Practicing beyond the scope of the profession
• Releasing confidential information without authorization
• Being convicted of a crime
• Failing to return or provide copies of records on request
• Being sexually or physically abusive
• Abandoning or neglecting a patient in need of immediate care
• Performing unnecessary work or unauthorized services
• Practicing under the influence of alcohol or other drugs

Program uses evidence-based curriculum that addresses clients' problems that may have led to and/or stem from substance abuse. This includes a parallel 12-week family psycho-educational program in along with their adolescent loved one.

Offers structured group activities designed to improve a person's interpersonal and communication skills, money management, hygiene, health and wellness.

Offers entrepreneurial training courses as well as technical and management seminars to those who are interested in starting or expanding their own businesses. Special efforts are made to recruit and select minorities, women, dislocated workers and persons with disabilities. The ten(10)-week program is designed for client entrepreneurs to interact in sixty (60) hours business courses and seminars. Each class is three (3) hours in duration. Client entrepreneurs receive one-on-one counseling, assistance with packaging business loans, mentor support, peer group support and a Small Business Resource Guide. A major requirement of the grant is the successful completion of a business plan by the participants. Call for detailed information.

Provides assistance to individuals with disabilities to solve problems and overcome barriers to independence. This includes helping to identify and access supports and services and apply for benefit programs. Issues tend to resolve around housing, transportation and employment needs.

Provides an alternative setting in the late afternoon for students who have not succeeded in the traditional educational setting. The program gives teenagers the necessary tools to either return successfully to their home high schools, or to complete their high school requirements, while helping them prepare for post-secondary education or employment. Students attend this Regents-based program in the late afternoon in their home school district. Students receive strong educational support, as classes are small and largely focused on the students. Programs are currently available in: Baldwin(with CTE); Bellmore-Merrick (HSE Only); East Rockaway; Freeport (HSE and Regents level); Glen Cove (HSE with ELL support); Hewlett-Woodmere; Hicksville; Massapequa, Plainview-Old Bethpage, Uniondale (HSE and Regents level); Valley Stream CHSD and Wantagh. Offers delivery of library books and other materials to homebound individuals in the community.

Provides law enforcement for Village of Glens Falls residents.

Provides long-and short-term crisis intervention, including emergency relocation information, counseling, and referrals for legal, health, and social services. Serves as interpreters in shelters, assists parents with finding childcare, and provides parenting skills workshops. Offers a women's support group for women who have been abused.

Provides day-of advice on matters such as custody, visitation, child support, and paternity for individuals with cases in Family Court.

Works to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life for rural residents by offering single family homeownership loans, home repair loans and grants, multi-family housing, community facilities loans, business and industry guaranteed loans, water and sewer loans, renewable energy loans and grants, and value-added programs. This program also offers a designed to help broaden access to COVID-19 testing and vaccines, rural health care services, and food assistance through food banks and food distribution facilities.

Provides career counseling to individuals to help them with appropriate job choices based on skills and knowledge, which includes helping them with the process of going back to school (how to apply, financial aid, trade school or college, etc.)

Offers subsidized rental apartments to low-moderate income households.

Offers a Teen Room with a collection of reading, audio and video materials, including a place for teens to socialize and have fun with other services.

Provides smoke detectors and free installation to individuals in the community.

Numbers to call for heat or water emergencies or problems.

Provides dog (and/or wildlife in some cases) control services for the Town of Mayfield.

Provides financial assistance for obtaining environmental modification and adaptive technology to address health and safety issues as well as accessibility issues.

211 helps people find help in their local community by maintaining a hyper local database of community resources, non-profit agencies, and government services. 211 Community Resource Specialists help identify needs and offer referrals to services and agencies the meet those needs.

Offers collection of minerals, fossils, butterflies, moths, and seashells as well as local historical materials. Educational programs in the sciences are offered for school and scout groups in house or as outreach programs.

Provides Reference, Information and Referral, Reader's Advisory and programs for children from birth through grade 5 as well as parents. Programs and services Parent-Toddler Workshops, E-Reference, Homework Help, arts and crafts, storytimes and book discussions.
