Provides court mandated 26, 40, and 52 session educational programs for male domestic violence offenders. Serves as an accountability mechanism for the domestic violence, civil, and criminal courts, as well as agents of the courts--probation, parole, and Child Protective Services (CPS)--as part of a coordinated civil and criminal justice response to men's violence against a partner. Men may also participate voluntarily.

School providing an alternative education program for children 3-21 years old with autism and other developmental disabilities or behavioral challenges, whose needs cannot be met in a local public school program. Program provides Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy. Integrated Preschool (for children 3-4 years old) and Day Care (for children 0-5 years old) are offered for both typical children and children with developmental disabilities. Provides behavioral health services to children 3 years and older, adolescents, adults, and families. Offers evidence-based comprehensive assessment, individual and group therapy, and medication management to help individuals and families achieve their mental wellness goals. ##REENTRY##

Provides a workshop that teaches families car seat safety basics, helping them gain the skills and knowledge they need to properly install, check, and maintain a seat. Families learn the different developmental stages of babies and children, and how each stage is most safe in a car seat. Families in need of a new seat will also receive one upon completion of the program. Car seats are standard and do not have any specialized equipment that may be needed for children with different disabilities.

Medicaid provides medical coverage for individuals based on income and resource guidelines.

Services for developmentally disabled children include education, vision therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, assistive technology, adaptive equipment, wheelchair clinic, and outpatient clinic. Early Intervention provides evaluation as well as services in the home and at the Center for Learning. School Age Program provides services at the Center for Learning and community-based experiences. Summer Work Program gives students the opportunity to strengthen their skills and confidence while providing experience in the world of employment.

Determines eligibility for and administers financial assistance in the form of Medicaid, Food Stamps/SNAP, Public Assistance, Emergency Assistance, and assistance with burials; see separate listing for HEAP. Provides Welfare Fraud Hotline and places great emphasis on identifying fraudulent applications both prior to and during case opening. Also assigns activities to clients that will assist them in locating employment to end or decrease their need for assistance.

Democratically run supportive living for persons in recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction. Use of drugs or alcohol, disruptive behavior, and non-payment of rent are causes for dismissal from the house.

Provides case management services to older adults ages 60 and older who need support to continue living in their homes. The program is available to older adults who live in Kenmore, Grand Island, North Buffalo, Tonawanda (city and town), and West Buffalo. People Inc. will provide guidance to older adults or their caregivers on how to better navigate the social service and healthcare systems, which may be challenging.

Office for claims and inquiries about Social Security and SSI; initial claims only for Medicare. Issues social security cards. Offers benefit programs to assist retired or disabled, as well as aged or disabled in need. Also offers programs to assist certain dependents and survivors, as well as coal miners (Black Lung Benefits).

Volunteers commit to mentoring a child for at least 2-4 hours a month for one year. Mentors can improve youth's connection to school and community, enhance their self-esteem and self-worth, increase positive relationships, and decrease student school dropout rates. Both community and school-based mentoring are available.

Youth programs include indoor soccer, flag football, girls and boys basketball. Red Cross swim lessons are also offered for youth. Adult recreation options include weight room, gym, and swimming. Classes for swimming, water aerobics, and arthritis swim are also available.

A Supplemental Education Program developed as an affordable option for families unable to participate in the traditional insurance-based Social Communication Program due to cost. This program targets the same skills, seeking to enhance:

• Self-Regulation Skills: needed to manage one's feelings and behaviors to adjust to the changing conditions of the environment for optimal engagement
• Conversation Skills: using language to take part in reciprocal and meaningful exchanges
• Cooperation Skills: problem-solving, compromising, and understanding others' perspectives to establish and maintain relationships
• Generalization Skills: communicating effectively across social situations and adjusting social behaviors to meet the listener's needs and environmental conditions

Offers older adults, ages 55+, the opportunity to work with children in need. Foster Grandparents are present in classrooms, childcare centers, and Head Start programs throughout Niagara County. Foster Grandparents can serve as mentors, tutors, caregivers, or role models to the children they work with. Income-eligible volunteers are provided with a tax-free stipend, accident and liability insurance, and mileage reimbursement. A minimum of 10 hours of service per week is required; the maximum amount of hours per week is 40. A comprehensive background check and physical are required before service may begin.

Provides public housing for low-income families, elderly, and long-term disabled. Comprised of 10 family apartments, 8 three-bedroom units, and 2 four-bedroom units. Preference given to permanent residents of the Genesee County. Waiting list may apply.

Provides assessment and supportive counseling to assist individuals to maintain mental and emotional stability, remain safely in the community, and avoid hospitalization.

Provides a chance for individuals to tell an Administrative Law Judge from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, Office of Administrative Hearings, why they think a decision about their case made by a local social services agency is wrong. The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance will then issue a written decision which will state whether the local agency's decision was wrong or right.
