The Greene County Department of Human Services Nutrition Program allows seniors to remain independent in their homes while maintaining good nutrition. Home Delivered Meals are provided to those individuals deemed eligible. Volunteers deliver these meals Monday through Friday (except holidays) throughout Greene County. This program provides seniors the opportunity to improve and/or maintain their nutrition, health status, and quality of life while remaining in their home. Each senior service center serves a noon-time meal consisting of a hot entree, vegetable and fruit, bread and butter, low fat milk and a dessert. Substitutions are available for those on diabetic or low-salt diets. The Nutrition Education Program provides a registered dietitian who does nutritional education on a one-on-one counseling level if needed by clients.

Office for the Aging has congregate meals which are available to adults age 60 and older as well as their spouses of any age, without regard to income, up to five days a week. They also have a Meals on Wheels program which delivers meals to home bound older residents in the community.

A staff of volunteers works in conjunction with our Jitney transportation program to distribute the home-delivered meals. Call or visit the Nutrition Site nearest your home to apply for Home Delivered Meals. A Nutrition Program Manager will make an appointment to do an assessment. The Town of Brookhaven Nutrition Program funding is provided by the United States Administration for Community Living through New York State Office for the Aging and Suffolk County Office for the Aging.
