Provides a home assessment to check energy efficiency, such as windows, light bulbs, shower heads, insulation, etc. Basic work is done by Westcop, but more difficult tasks are contracted out. Renters need to involve their landlord before the process begins because they may have to pay some costs.

EMPOWER NEW YORK | NEW YORK STATE ENERGY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

* Provides no-cost energy efficiency solutions to income-eligible New Yorkers. During the initial visit, the EmPower New York contractor will evaluate electricity use and cost, and may provide some minor improvements at no cost. Examples include: Install high efficiency lighting as needed Review and adjust your thermostat setting for maximum comfort and savings Check and adjust your hot water temperature Evaluate the need for high efficiency shower heads and aerators, and install if needed Measure the energy use of your refrigerators and freezers. These may be replaced with new ENERGY STAR models, at no cost to you, if your old appliances use a lot of energy Check for carbon monoxide and evaluate the need for CO and smoke detectors

HOME ENERGY AFFORDABILITY TEAM (HEAT) | NATIONAL GRID

Heat is here to help bring efficiency and comfort to those individuals who qualify. Homeowners and renters residing in a single-family home or residential buildings with 1-4 units who are listed as the person of record responsible for the natural gas service, who meet income guidelines or receive HEAP, SNAP or public assistance, are eligible. If you qualify, HEAT will make arrangements with one of our skilled energy specialists to conduct a no-cost Home Energy Assessment of your home. The energy specialist will perform a top-to bottom evaluation of the home, both inside and out, to find areas where you can save money. Customers may also qualify for no-cost energy-saving improvements such as: .Heath and safety testing .Installation of programmable or smart thermostats .Installation of faucet aerators or low-flow showerheads .Installation of carbon monoxide detectors .Attic insulation, weather stripping, duct sealing, and air sealingIn certain cases we may repair or replace natural gas appliances (heating systems, domestic hot water heaters)
