Project Veterans' Independence is a Catholic Charities program partnership with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Our goal is to place homeless veterans into permanent housing and help them live independently within their communities while offering counseling and access to support services. Supportive case management, peer-to-peer support groups and crisis intervention services are available to all clients.

Our residents usually range in age from 65 to 90+, are physically and mentally well, can manage their own personal hygiene, and can communicate their wants and needs. We do not have nursing care, but we do have personal attendants to help our residents live fully involved lives. We provide a private bedroom which you can decorate to your personal taste, and a private bath. As you might expect from our name, food has a special place here. You will find our home cooked meals and snacks delightfully social and very delicious.

Operates two residential homes, one on the north shore and one on the south shore, for people with mental illness. Residences are within walking distance of a variety of convenience stores and supermarkets. Both homes welcome 11-12 residents and have 24 hour supervision from a professionally trained staff. Each location provides laundry facilities, an entertainment center, storage areas, and heat/air conditioning. All bedrooms are furnished with twin beds, dressers, and night tables. However, residents may bring their own furniture if they prefer.
