Offers a unique service that has been a great help to individuals with disabilities who cannot utilize line-haul transit buses. The Able-Ride / Paratransit Program provides public curb-to-curb transportation through the MTA-Long Island Bus service. Individuals with disabilities are evaluated and approved under federal standards contained in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The service is available only within Nassau County. AbleRide will pick up the person with a physical disability outside the home and take the individual to visit the doctor, go shopping, commute to work, or even attend social events. The participant may travel with an aide or a companion. There is a fee each way for the individual with the disability as well as for companions. Aides travel free of charge. In some cases, Medicaid coverage may be applied. Contact Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) Bus at 516-228-4028 for an application. Call for more detailed information.

The Nassau University Medical Center Ambulance Division provides care and monitoring for patients requiring medically necessary and emergency-care transport. Our ambulance teams administer courteous and compassionate Advanced Life Support (ALS), as well as Basic Life Support (BLS). The NUMC Ambulance division offers both Advanced Life Support Services and Basic Life Support Services. Both ALS and BLS ambulances are on call through our in-house dispatching system with trained phone operators. Our services include home-to-hospital, inter-facility or hospital-to-home transport. Also offered is, Suffolk County Accessible Transportation (SCAT). This program provides curb to curb service for individuals with a disability throughout Suffolk County. Each of the Towns or service providers listed below provide transportation to seniors to a variety of essential services. Provides programmed activities and services for participants from the Villages of Oyster Bay, East Norwich, Bayville, Locust Valley, Brookville, Oyster Bay Cove, Mill Neck, Muttontown, Matinecock and the surrounding area who are 60 years and older. Activities and services include comprehensive social services, meals, food pantry if eligible, used clothing shop, transportation, referral of home care workers, fitness and exercise classes, exercise equipment work-outs, computer classes and five times weekly adult day service program for frail elderly. Seniors can become involved in advocacy issues, bible study, bingo, dances, nutrition counseling, trips and tours, volunteer opportunities and receive information about and referral to other services. Senior Center lunch is served Monday through Friday. Adult day service is provided Monday through Friday.
