A federally funded program administered by New York State to assist low income families with their energy needs. Multiple components are available to residents while funding is available.
Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) components include Regular and Emergency benefit assistance towards heating and electricity costs, furnace repair, replacement, clean and tune, and cooling assistance. All approved benefits result in a credit on the heating or electric bill, or a delivery of fuel, equaling the benefit amount. Programs run annually until funding is exhausted.

The Heating Equipment Repair & Replacement (HERR) Benefit is open to individuals aged 60 and older who own and reside in their own home. Benefit amounts are based on the actual cost incurred to repair or replace essential heating equipment: $4,000 for a repair and $8,000 for a replacement.
The Clean & Tune Benefit is closed. Applicants must meet all HEAP eligibility criteria in order to be eligible for the Heating Equipment Clean and Tune benefit.
The Cooling Assistance Benefit is closed. Applicants must meet all HEAP eligibility criteria and a household member must have a medical need in order to be eligible for the Cooling benefit. All applicants are required to provide medical documentation that their medical condition is exacerbated by extreme heat, unless there is a vulnerable member in their household. Provides a one-time, low income utility bill credit to affected customers' bills. Those who are already enrolled in this program will automatically receive this credit. Individuals can call to enroll or see if they qualify. This one-time credit to customers enrolled in the Energy Affordability Program will eliminate unpaid utility bills that have accrued through May 1, 2022. Any newly eligible low-income customer that enrolls in EAP before December 31, 2022 will be included in the bill credit program.
NOTE: those who are or have been accepted in the ERAP program are automatically eligible.

Nassau County has initiated a septic system replacement program for residents and small businesses -- Septic Environmental Program to Improve Cleanliness (SEPTIC). The SEPTIC program will provide grant funding to eligible recipients to replace a conventional or failing septic system with an innovative and alternative onsite wastewater treatment system. Nassau County is offering grants up to $20,000 for homeowners or small businesses to install state-of-the-art nitrogen reducing septic systems.
