The consumer will be asked to provide information about income, household expenses and debts so a full budget analysis can be made. Alternatives to bankruptcy will be explained along with any options that may help the financial situation. A complete overview of the bankruptcy process including advantages and disadvantages of bankruptcy will be provided. Clients that complete this counseling will be issued a certificate which is required for filing a bankruptcy.

Chautauqua Opportunities for Development, Inc. (CODI) - Dunkirk

Focuses on creating asset development opportunities for both residents and entrepreneurs. Assists individuals in growing and investing in their communities by providing lending capital, training, consulting, technical assistance, seminars, workshops, and low-cost business rental space to new and existing businesses that would otherwise lack access to these services. Assists area residents in developing asset based thinking by providing financial literacy training, basic budgeting, and home appliance loans to combat predatory lenders. Loan programs and Cottage Industry Assistance Program target low to moderate income existing and prospective individuals. Chautauqua Microenterprise Loan Fund and the Women and Minority Microenterprise Loan Fund Programs help small businesses by providing small business start up and expansion loans. The small business incubator offers small businesses an opportunity to grow and stabilize with subsidies around rent, business services, and technical assistance. Program site serves as a Warming Center during times of excessive cold and as a Cooling Center during times of excessive heat. Provides free legal representation in eight counties of Western New York. The Chautauqua County office offers legal services in the areas of: - Assisted Living - Evictions - Consumer Protection - Elder Abuse Prevention - Foreclosure Prevention - Health Care Advocacy - Housing - Income Maintenance - Substituted Decision Making - Western New York Coalition Pooled Trust Also houses the Elder Advocacy Program, a cross-systems community collaboration to address elder abuse. Representation is provided by upper-level law students, working under the close supervision of experienced lawyers who are clinical professors. There is no charge for clinic representation. Foreclosure Prevention Project - Legal Aid Bureau of Buffalo

Provides help for homeowners who are either currently in either mortgage or tax foreclosure or for whom foreclosure is imminent. For those facing foreclosure, efforts are coordinated with local housing counseling agencies and banks to address financial and employment issues and to secure mortgage modifications, repayment plans, or forbearances before the initiation of any legal process. For those who have been served, LABB represents homeowners in active foreclosure proceedings.
