Legal services provided by law students for youth involved in the Suffolk County juvenile and criminal justice systems. Clinic students also provide educational advocacy to justice-involved young people in matters such as school suspension and expulsion hearings, special education proceedings and impartial hearings. They also represent those young people in delinquency and adolescent offender cases. Representation is provided by upper-level law students, working under the close supervision of experienced lawyers who are clinical professors. There is no charge for clinic representation. However, the clinics have limited resources and cannot take every case, no matter how deserving. Clinic staff members meet with potential clients by appointment only. TLC RESPONSE | TOURO LAW CENTER

Established a helpline to answer legal questions arising from the pandemic. Volunteer attorneys will provide referrals to our own clinical program and appropriate legal partners on a wide range of legal issues. The helpline will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Students and attorneys will provide community members with free assistance or referrals on a myriad of issues including landlord-tenant, civil liberties, bankruptcy, employee rights, unemployment, stimulus payment, insurance and more. DEPORTATION DEFENSE CLINIC | MAURICE A. DEANE SCHOOL OF LAW AT HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY 

Provides full deportation defense services for clients most at-risk of deportation. The Clinic defends clients in need of motions to reopen prior removal orders, facing false gang allegations, seeking release on bond, and victims of trafficking seeking relief. The clinic provides legal screenings for relief, responds to ICE raids, represents clients detained in ICE jails, litigates in immigration court (such as master calendar, bond, and individual hearings), administrative advocacy with USCIS and at asylum interviews, and appellate litigation before the Board of Immigration Appeals and in Federal Court. Also provide Impact litigation. We challenge policies and practices that harm the immigrant community on Long Island and in New York. In addition we provide Community advocacy. We advocate for human, civil, and constitutional rights for immigrant communities on Long Island and in New York through collaborations with legal service providers, legal trainings, professional development, legislative and administrative advocacy, and community organizing. Uses the tools of corporate and transactional law to represent non-profits, social movement groups, and cooperatives, social enterprises, and other small businesses, with a preference for clients that contribute to racial and economic justice. Our clients include new entities requiring start-up assistance (like choosing a corporate entity, drafting by-laws, and filing for tax exemption) and established groups that need help in connection with more complex issues (including issues related to commercial transactions, corporate compliance, corporate finance, employment law, real estate, and more). SENIOR CITIZENS LAW PROGRAM | TOURO LAW CENTER

Program provides pro bono legal services to senior citizens, age 60+, residing in Suffolk County. Services are not income-based, although there is an effort to serve the needy, low-income and underserved populations. Under the supervision of the Senior Staff Attorney and the Staff Attorney, the SCLP handles several types of cases. These include Landlord-Tenant, Section 8 and subsidized housing matters, preparation of Powers of Attorney/Health Care Proxies/Living Wills, Medicaid applications and Pooled Trust applications. The SCLP also provides representation at Medicaid Fair hearings, in Town Zoning Violations matters, and in Small Claims Court cases. Representation is provided by upper-level law students, working under the close supervision of experienced lawyers who are clinical professors. There is no charge for clinic representation. Assistance to low-income individuals with civil legal issues in areas of: Public benefits (including Public Assistance, Food Stamps, HEAP, and Medicaid) Unemployment insurance (denials and terminations) Housing issues (including landlord/tenant relations, evictions, homelessness prevention, public housing and subsidized housing (Section 8) Social Security Disability (SSD) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) denials, terminations, overpayments and underpayments Foreclosure services, including: representation at settlement conferences foreclosure defenses help getting loan modifications (before or after a foreclosure action has been filed) negotiating with lenders and loan servicers help with short sales help to tenants living in foreclosed properties facing eviction Employment Rights and Rights of Persons with Criminal Records (Tompkins, Tioga, Chemung and Schuyler Counties) Employment Discrimination Employment Clearance for Background Checks by Public Agencies Certificates of Relief from Disability/ Certificates of Good Conduct Public Benefits denials based on Criminal Record ("Fleeing Felon" and UIB Misconduct) Employment Discrimination based on Criminal Record (Re-entry issues) Legal education and advice to community groups; and other non-criminal cases Uncontested divorces may be handled by pro bono (volunteer) attorneys or through pro se (do it yourself) clinics.
