This 600-hour, full-time Esthetics program is located at the Western Suffolk BOCES Northport campus. Those who satisfactorily complete this Esthetics program are eligible to take the New York State exam that leads to a license in Esthetics. Your NYS Esthetics license will help you find job opportunities with flexible hours, financial stability and job satisfaction in Nassau County, Suffolk County, and New York City. Students enjoy practicing on classmates and clinic clients as they study anatomy and physiology, bacteriology, sterilization, structure and function of the skin, facial procedures, use of various machines, waxing, basic make-up techniques, and business practices. Successful completion of the Esthetics program at Western Suffolk BOCES prepares you to sit for the New York State Esthetics licensing exam and includes 30-hour Laser Hair Removal certification. Offers a rigorous boot camp-style certificate program which transforms learners with no programming background into web developers and front-end developers who can build omnichannel, consumer-facing, rich front-end single-page applications (SPAs) using cutting-edge web technologies such as Core Java, HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, JavaScript, Mocha, Chai and Angular. Boot camp courses are taught 100 percent virtually through our proprietary learning management system with a combination of asynchronous and synchronous sessions via Zoom. Learn the skills and knowledge necessary to be a valuable member of today’s health care team as you work under the direction of nurses, doctors or other authorized health care provider. The School of Practical Nursing at Western Suffolk BOCES is approved by the New York State Education Department and accredited by the Council on Occupational Education. BOCES’ program offers a low student-to-teacher ratio that allows many opportunities for highly personalized, hands-on instruction. The School prepares students to work with patients and medical staff in medical facilities including nursing homes. Students are then assigned to a clinical site at one of Long Island’s excellent health care facilities where they work under the guidance of an experienced health care professional. Classes are held at Wilson Technological Center’s Northport campus. Those who successfully complete the New York State-approved Practical Nursing program at BOCES meet the qualifications for admission to the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN). Offers an 18-credit Advanced Certificate in Infrastructure Security Management where you will learn to use advanced technology for fire protection, crime prevention, and environmental monitoring. Through a flexible curriculum, you’ll learn to ensure that critical systems, such as backup power, life safety equipment, and water infrastructure, are fully operational and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. You’ll work directly with faculty who have industry expertise in facilities management, contingency planning, security systems, and risk assessment. Nondegree, or nonmatriculated, study is a great way to: experience or prepare for college-level study; stay current in your field; earn credit toward a degree at another college or university; improve your skills or train for employment. Offers a 160-hour program composed of a sequence of noncredit courses that leads to a clear level of competence in American Sign Language. The certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete all required courses plus eight (8) workshops of the student’s choice. The courses and workshops in this program are continually updated and rotated in the summer, spring and fall. Affiliated instructors are members of both the hearing and deaf communities. Those who complete the certificate program may choose to pursue further studies in an interpreter program. Required courses include: ASL I, ASL II, ASL III, ASL IV, ASL V, ASL VI and ASL VII. Offers a one-year area of study that is designed for students who wish to begin a career in computer-assisted drafting and design, update their existing professional skills or continue to earn an A.A.S degree in Construction Technology/Architectural Technology. Emphasis is placed on CAD drawing for architecture, construction, design illustration and presentation. The rapid expansion of computer graphics is creating a multitude of new and exciting career opportunities. Graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions with architectural offices, construction and engineering firms, communication and manufacturing companies and government agencies. Refers to a specific pedagogy supported by the online digital learning environment Brightspace. Through this environment, instructors engage with students, provide learning activities and materials, and conduct assessments. Student can expect to find engagement, activities and assessment, provided by their instructors, to fully participate in the course. Distance education is an attractive option for individuals who need flexibility and are self-motivated and can work independently. There is no difference in what you are expected to learn; it is the modality delivery that is different. The different types of online education courses include: Online (ONLINE) – engagement and instruction is provided by the professor through Brightspace the college’s learning management system, and students interact with faculty, other students and content working on their own time while adhering to course deadlines; Hybrid/Blended –Instructors meet with students in a classroom on one of the campus locations and the balance of the instruction takes place in Brightspace; or the instructor meets with students in a virtual classroom i.e. Zoom and the balance of the instruction takes place in Brightspace. Ergo, this is a blended format. Blended meetings may be weekly, monthly, or a specific number of times per semester as dictated by an instructor but meeting dates must be clearly advertised in the Banner course schedule and displayed in the course outline; Combined Online 50% Online and 50% online in real time; Real Time Online recreates a classroom experience with your instructor and other class members using live virtual instruction (Zoom) on scheduled days and times; and HyFlex – Simultaneously, some students attend on-campus and some students attend online in real time while all are enrolled in the same course.
