Provides a workshop that teaches families car seat safety basics, helping them gain the skills and knowledge they need to properly install, check, and maintain a seat. Families learn the different developmental stages of babies and children, and how each stage is most safe in a car seat. Families in need of a new seat will also receive one upon completion of the program. Car seats are standard and do not have any specialized equipment that may be needed for children with different disabilities.

Offers clothing, diapers, formula, strollers, cribs, car seats, etc, to parents who are in need. Call to see what is available. Baby gear is sometimes available, but clothing, diapers, and formula are always in stock. Primarily a services for teen parents, but open to all.

Educators available for child safety seat instruction and installation. Donated seats are available to low income families.

A new car seat is provided by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, after Putnam CAP’s assessment of the family’s financial need. The seat will be professionally installed by the Sheriff’s Department.

Offers safety seats, boosters and bicycle helmets free or at low cost to residents. Also evaluates proper installation of car seats and boosters and proper fit of helmets to ensure safety of the child. This program is co-sponsored by the Steuben County Traffic Safety Board and Sheriffs Department.

Provides one of the most vital units throughout the Sheriff’s office. Throughout the year, Community Relations Unit visits each Suffolk County School District as well as multiple clubs and various organizations. Its main goal is to bridge the gap between Law Enforcement and the members of the Community. CRU is responsible for implementing community outreach and school-based programs, organizing events, and promoting the Sheriff’s mission. The unit offers an array of Community and School-based programs free of charge for all Suffolk County schools, businesses, organizations, non-profits and agencies. Children up to their 8th birth date riding in any seating position of a motor vehicle are required to be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system.Parents and caregivers may also be eligible to participate in the Free Child Safety Seat Distribution Program. Financial eligibility and WIC referral required.

Provides an injury prevention program that includes assistance with safety seats for children, bike helmets for children under the age of 14, and fall prevention information for infants, children, and seniors.

Provides car seats or booster seats for infant and toddlers of income-eligible families at no charge. Assists with proper installation, fit for child, and usage of car seats.

Provides free fun filled family event for Birth through 6th grade students and their families. The program is sponsored by the Steuben County Youth Bureau and the Task Force for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

* Collects donations of baby items and clothing for moms and babies and redistributes them to social service agencies and church outreach programs that work with parents and children who need them most in the Rochester community. Items collected include the following:Baby Supplies (formula, diapers, wipes, baby bath, bottles). Personal Hygiene Items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant). Feminine Products and adult diapers. Cleaning Supplies (All-purpose, bleach, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, sponges). Monetary Donations.
