The New York State Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides breastfeeding support, nutrition counseling, health education, health care referrals, referrals to other services, and nutritious foods.

Telephone counseling and information about breastfeeding.
This is a weekly get together for new moms to share information with each other. A lactation consultant is available for questions.
Offers pregnant women low or no cost pre-natal programs covering newborn-infant care, breast feeding, CPR/Tot-saver, pre-natal exercise and Lamaze training. Participants in the Lamaze class have the opportunity, at no charge, for a one time visit by a registered nurse to assist in newborn care.

Childbirth Education
A weekly drop-in center where mothers can get support and advice on breastfeeding. Dads and families are welcome. Cafe is staffed by at least one International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
Offers a comprehensive range of health professionals and services on-site, including fetal monitoring, ultrasound examination, and routine GYN care from early teens through menopause. Also provides immediate access to childbirth education, lactation services, registered dietitians and genetic counseling and testing provided by Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo.

Offers supervised meetings where you can share similar experiences in a comfortable, caring setting. Depending on your needs, some health care support groups assist with specific conditions and issues, while others are more general in nature. Some of our support groups include: Bereavement Support Group; Breast Cancer Support Group; Breastfeeding Support Group; Cancer Family Support Groups; Caregiver Support Group; Diabetes Support Group; Dialysis Support Group; Gastric Sleeve Support Group; Prostate Cancer Support Group and Stroke Support Group. Maternity Center provides prenatal programs, baby care and safety courses, intensive care for premature newborns and those with health problems, full range of prenatal testing, classes in childbirth, Lamaze and breast feeding. The Center has its own entry and parking lot. An orientation for expectant parents is held every Saturday at 9am; call for reservations as space is limited.

The Cohoes Family Care MOMS Program is an educational program for pregnant women. Provided are pregnancy tests, assistance in completing Medicaid applications, access to prenatal and primary care, free childbirth and breastfeeding education, along with pregnancy and infant care education Also provided are referrals to community agencies as appropriate, such as WIC or the local Department of Health. Crisis counseling on issues such as domestic violence, child abuse and mental health issues is also provided.

Offers the following classes to expectant mothers and fathers:

The Pregnancy Workshop - To be taken during the first and second trimester and helps both new and experienced parents learn about the developing baby, physical and emotional changes, nutrition, exercise, preparation for the new arrival, ways to deal with pregnancy discomforts, and warning signs to report to your health care provider.
One Sunday per month, 5 PM - 7 PM

Breastfeeding and Caring for New Families Classes:
Part 1: Breastfeeding Basics: Topics include how to get the best start, achieving a good latch, positioning, establishing a good supply, and managing common challenge. Provides information on community resources.
Scheduled Saturday, 9:30 AM - 12 Noon and Scheduled weeknights, 6 PM - 8:30 PM

Part 2: Caring for New Families: Teaches new mothers to care for themselves and their newborn and includes topics about safety, when to call the doctor, the different between the baby blues and postpartum depressions.
Saturday, 1 PM - 3 PM

Prepared Childbirth Classes: To be taken during the seventh month of pregnancy and includes topics about relaxation and pain control options for labor, how to stay comfortable and healthy during the last weeks, and stress reduction techniques.
One Sunday per month, 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM

Infant/Child Heartsaver Class: Designed for expectant parents but is open to anyone wishing to learn these techniques. Teaches CPR and how to help a choking infant or child and offers tips to make your child's environment as safe as possible.
One Sunday per month, 2 PM - 4 PM
