Offering an opportunity for individuals to be Fair Housing Testers. LIHS is a nonprofit fair housing agency with openings for testers. Testers are considered per diem employees rather than employees. However, LIHS will train and pay volunteers Testers a stipend of $17.00 per hour plus travel expenses. COSMETOLOGY LICENSING COURSE | WESTERN SUFFOLK BOCES WILSON TECH NORTHPORT CAMPUS

Offers a 1000hr course that will prepare you for your NYS License in Cosmetology. Students enjoy hands on learning practicing on classmates, mannequins and clinic clients as they study hairstyling, coloring, perms and relaxers, make-up techniques, manicures and business practices. Successful completion of the Cosmetology program at Western Suffolk BOCES prepares you to sit for the New York State Cosmetology licensing exam and includes Hair Extensions certification. If you lack hours to meet NYS licensing requirements, you may be able to enroll in our State Board Preparation class and take the hours you need. Develops entry-level skills for managerial positions and careers in the hospitality industry. Students acquire the knowledge and competencies required for working as managers in eating, lodging, travel, recreation, and gaming establishments. Full-time students can complete the program in two semesters thereby accelerating entry into employment situations. The program is appropriate for people who already hold post-secondary degrees, for those who are currently employed in the industry and who would benefit from some specialized training and for those who are interested in acquiring hospitality-related managerial skills but who are not interested in pursuing an academic degree in the field. SPECIAL CAREER EDUCATION | ISLIP CAREER CENTER

Serves students with disabilities from the component school districts. This program provides a self-contained learning environment with modifications as determined by the Committees on Special Education (i.e., 12-1-1 and 8-1-1). The Gary D. Bixhorn Technical Center, the Islip Career Center and Harry B. Ward Technical Center serve high school students who are 15.5 (15 years and 6 months) of age by September 1st until the age of 21. Special Career Education (SCE) creates opportunities for all students by providing them with the technical and academic skills needed to prepare for future employment and a successful path to college or other post-secondary programs. SCE provides technical training to prepare students for a successful career. The structured training gives students the tools needed to be successful in a job after high school and/or further post-secondary education. Each student is encouraged to explore various areas of study and to develop the essential skills to feel competent in entering today's competitive job market, while helping them to learn how to cope with their disabilities in the workplace.
