READING/WRITING LEARNING CLINIC | JOAN AND ARNOLD SALTZMAN COMMUNITY SERVICES CENTER

Dedicated to providing literacy support to children, adolescents, and adults in an environment where learners have the safety and support that allow them to take risks and gain confidence as they move toward developing mature control of literacy skills. The Reading/Writing Learning Clinic provides services to families in the communities that adjoin Hofstra University as well as in the larger metropolitan area. New York state-certified literacy specialists provide weekly small group or individual instruction. The Reading/Writing Learning Clinic also offers professional reading and writing evaluations for school-aged children and adults. Public library. Offers public access computers, meeting room, study room, copy machine, and radio receiver for the visually impaired. Also offers various programming such as: Toddler Time, Story Time, ESL classes, Bingo Night, Writing Class, Read to a Dog, and more. Serves as a Cooling Center for individuals during times of excessive heat. Always call ahead to make sure a Cooling Center is open before going there.

WRITING | MOLLOY UNIVERSITY CONTINUING EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

Offers non-credit online writing courses in partnership with Ed2Go. Sample course offerings include: Effective Business Writing; Write Fiction Like a Pro; Write Your Life Story; Write And Publish Your Nonfiction Book; Beginning Writer's Workshop and How to Make Money From Your Writing. These six-week online courses are the perfect way to learn a new skill or enhance your existing ones. You'll need to spend roughly two to four hours each week completing two engaging lessons in an enjoyable, interactive learning environment. Expert instructors develop and lead every course. The course is not conducted "live." You are able to log-in at any time to take your lessons. New sessions start every month, so you can sign up anytime. Upon completing a course with a passing score, you'll get an award of completion from Molloy. Call for detailed information.

Literacy West NY, Inc. - Warsaw

A non-profit agency providing free adult education and community resources in basic reading, writing, math, digital literacy/computer skills, English instruction, GED prep, ESOL and civics, workforce readiness, vocational training with certifications, and more. Classes and tutoring services are provided by trained volunteers and agency staff. Group for adults with a mental health diagnosis interested in using writing in their mental health recovery.
