Help make cost-free repairs to the homes of our low-income, elderly, and physically challenged neighbors. RT welcomes volunteers of all skill levels who are willing and able to lend a hand to complete a wide variety of tasks on Rebuilding Days. They may work with, and learn from, a skilled tradesperson or work independently on projects like painting, yard work, house cleaning, redecorating, etc.Skilled Professionals; Professional carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters, masons, flooring installers, drywall finishers, plasterers, sheet metal workers, operating engineers, laborers, landscapers, steamfitters, and bricklayers are all key volunteers on our projects. They typically complete the more complex tasks in their trade, and support the Project Leader throughout the day. When necessary, a tradesman may cover two or more projects on Rebuilding Days.Warehouse and Driver VolunteersThese individuals, who must have a valid driver's license and an insured vehicle pick-up or larger, are involved in delivering last-minute supplies and equipment to the various job sites on Rebuilding Days. The bulk of materials needed are delivered to the site by the vendors, but there are inevitable oversights, underestimates, etc. which necessitate having a delivery service available for the day. This group also assists with moving construction debris to the various collection points located throughout the service area.Building Trade and Construction VolunteersOn Rebuilding Day, construction professionals serve as Project Leaders to implement the project plans, assign and monitor work, and, generally, supervise the day's activities. Others, not working in the trades but having the requisite leadership skills, can also serve as Project Leaders. After an initial training session in early March, the Leader works closely with the homeowner, sponsor's representative, and the office staff to plan the details of the project and workday. Usually, new Leader candidates work with an experienced Leader their first year.
