Volunteers are also needed to assist on the day of the AIDSWalk with volunteer coordination, check-in and passing out water and T-shirts. Women Swimmin' is a community swim, not a race, that gives women in the community (and some who travel from afar) the opportunity to swim across Cayuga Lake, while raising money for Hospicare & Palliative Care Services.Held at the Ithaca Yacht Club and generally takes place on the second Saturday in August. Registration for swimmers begins in early May at www.womenswimmin.org.Limit of swimmers is reached usually within a few hours. Registration for boaters and volunteers begins later in May.Women Swimmin' Laps for Hospicare is an opportunity that began in 2015. Women, age 18 and older, can swim any distance they choose, in any pool with a certified lifeguard, to fundraise for Hospicare. All-volunteer effort to meet basic needs of families at holiday time.Children aged 18 or younger or currently registered in the Trumansburg School District receive new clothes, hats, gloves, food and new, age-appropriate toys and books.Families of Sponsored Children receive canned goods and fresh groceries for the school's Christmas break.Homebound individuals living in Trumansburg area receive a fruit basket and goodie bag.
Volunteers (9th grade or older) welcome to help with stocking food pantry and packing food packages in Binghamton and/or Endicott. Volunteers help with holiday program distribution. Grade school student volunteers must be accompanied by adult.

Parenting Skills: eight hands-on, interactive sessions to foster family communication skills, such as encouragement, can do, choices, self-control and respecting feelings. FREE classes, snacks and childcare. Parenting Styles: 7 weeks, sessions on parenting styles and discipline, child development, cultural influences and environmental issues. Parenting Skills Facilitated Visits: pairs parenting educator with parent(s) and children working with the Tompkins County Department of Social Services' Children's Services Unit. Tompkins County Coalition for Families: ad hoc group of organizations and citizens creating a supportive community for children and families. Tompkins Families! Community specific programming in Dryden, Enfield, Groton, and Newfield. TF can also serve other communities in addition to the ones listed here. Thriving with Your Spirited Child: a seven week program with information about temperaments. Develop effective strategies for dealing with temper tantrums and power struggles.

Parenting Skills Classes
All volunteers complete a mandatory 20-hour training program. Patient care volunteers help patients and families with household chores, shopping, transportation, and companionship. This is done in the patient's home setting, whatever that may be. Patient care volunteers are also utilized in our 6-bed residence to help prepare and serve meals and to provide companionship.Specially trained and/or professional volunteers also support bereaved families, play music, give massages, and provide pet visits. Additional volunteer support includes tending our gardens, lending a hand in the office, grocery shopping for the residence, and helping with fundraising events.If you become a volunteer, you will be asked to: Attend the 20-hour mandatory training session Make a commitment of 2-4 hours a week for a minimum of one year Attend continuing education and support meetings to enhance your skills and knowledge of hospice Be reliable and prompt when performing assignments Participate in an annual review Successfully pass a background check Comply with the policies and procedures of the organizationFor more information, please visit www.hospicare.org/volunteers
