PROJECT (FOCUS) FAMILIES ORGANIZED TO CURB SUBSTANCE ABUSE | STUDENT ASSISTANCE SERVICES (SAS)

A two-fold program that provides education and public awareness to parents and others in the community, through various modes, about the legal ramifications and dangers of alcohol or drug abuse, and what services are available to help support them if they know adolescents who are involved with alcohol or drugs. And the second part is a strategy to reduce availability of alcohol to underage youth by training alcohol sellers and servers, along with the risk factors of drug availability in alcohol-serving establishments.

This program provides licensed counselors in 4 districts and 10 schools offering substance abuse prevention education and counseling to students, faculties, families and communities through individual and group counseling, information and referral services, as well as familiy communication programs.

Youth Prevention Program | Family Service Society - Main Site

Provides preventative school counseling services to youth and their families on a referral basis. Provides trainings and workshops to schools, agencies and organizations on parent/child communication, personal development, team building, violence prevention and ADHD. Early intervention workshops are available to area schools on: anger management, drug and alcohol prevention, and violence prevention.

Stop DWI Program | Yates County Sheriff's Office

Legislated in NYS as a response to injuries and deaths caused by drunk drivers. Provides a general deterrence approach with four major components. Enforcement - includes 13 local police departments, sheriffs and state police. Adjudication - includes public defenders, prosecution and magistrates. Rehabilitation - includes an alcohol abuse counselor and a probation officer. Education - includes many programs geared to raising public awareness with a particular focus on students in local schools. The program is entirely funded through drunk driving fines received through town, village, city and county courts. No Yates County tax dollars are involved.

Support for Students Exposed to Trauma, 10-session intervention for youth who have been exposed to traumatic events and are suffering from symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder for adolescent's grade 6-12. Teen Intervene, a brief early interventions for teens who display the initial stages of alcohol or substance use involvement, for adolescent's grades 6-12. Vape Intervention, students explore motivations for using e-cigs, gain knowledge about the risks of vaping nicotine or other substances. Adult services: Empowered Health Consciousness. Ripple Effect of Thriving, group sessions for adults. Resilience and Thriving, offers resilience skills and go from coping to thriving for adult caregivers 18 years and older.

3-4 Session program for teens ages 12-19 which provides education, support and motivation to reduce their substance use. Note: These sessions are currently offered in virtual settings.

Achieving Our Dreams Program - NACS

A multi-faceted program to empower youth and the community to live healthy lifestyles by reducing and preventing alcohol and drug abuse. Provides evidence-based models for youth in a variety of settings. The "Celebrating with a Good Mind" campaign conducts public awareness campaigns and hosts alcohol/drug-free community events such as an annual Super Bowl party, Halloween party, and Buffalo sports parties, with a central theme of having fun without alcohol or drugs. All programs are offered in Erie County and are open to all community residents.

Prevention Works - Dunkirk Office

Provides wellness, life skills, social emotional learning, alcohol and substance use awareness, prevention education, parenting support programs, and intervention services. Evidence-based prevention programs are available in elementary, middle, and high school. Works for families and children living in chemically dependent households. Provides one-on-one educational sessions and family support resources for youth and adults. Offers other impactor trainings and professional development on: Alcohol and Substance Use, Problem Gambling, Employee Wellness, Wellness Initiative for Senior Education (60+). These events may take the form of public presentations, in-service workshops, workplace training, or on-site training to address the interest and needs of the group. Topics available for training events include issues regarding substance abuse, compulsive gambling, and addictions prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery. These training events can span from 1 hour to 18 hour presentations.
