READY Genesee is designed to help citizens learn how to protect themselves and their families against all types of hazards. The focus of the content is on how to develop, practice, and maintain emergency plans that reflect what must be done before, during, and after a disaster to protect people and their property. Also included is information on how to assemble a disaster supplies kit that contains food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity for individuals and their families to survive following a disaster in the event they must rely on their own resources.

Provides training and support to the county's first responder community as a division of the Erie County Department of Health. Coordinates CFR-Certified First Responder and EMT/AEMT-Advanced/Emergency Medical Technician training for volunteer and paid emergency medical care providers. Provides paramedic training. Operates the MERS Control emergency services dispatch center and coordinates ambulance responses for the City of Buffalo, New York State Thruway throughout Erie County, and the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Responsible for supporting operations of the county's Hazardous Materials/WMD Response Team (ECHMRT), Erie County Medical Reserve Corps and Western New York Stress Reduction Program. Operates the County-run Ambulance Service. Provides outreach through the Reach out to 911 program. EMS Staff responds to emergencies and disasters around the county including MCI-Mass Casualty Incidents, School Bus accidents and those events requiring specialized emergency medical services and/or coordination of EMS resources.

The Office of the Flood Insurance Advocate advocates for the fair treatment of policyholders and property owners by providing education and guidance on all aspects of the National Flood Insurance Program. If your have utilized existing resources (insurance agent, National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) insurance company and/or the NFIP Help Center) and are still frustrated and confused, request assistance from the Office of the Flood Insurance Advocate on the issue you have been unable to resolve. Offers a federally funded, community based volunteer program that provides training and on-going education to better prepare communities and individuals to respond to emergency/disaster situations.
