Courses offered at various sites. Corporate classes also available. Installs smoke alarms and provides in-home emergency planning assistance.

Provides training and support to the county's first responder community as a division of the Erie County Department of Health. Coordinates CFR-Certified First Responder and EMT/AEMT-Advanced/Emergency Medical Technician training for volunteer and paid emergency medical care providers. Provides paramedic training. Operates the MERS Control emergency services dispatch center and coordinates ambulance responses for the City of Buffalo, New York State Thruway throughout Erie County, and the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Responsible for supporting operations of the county's Hazardous Materials/WMD Response Team (ECHMRT), Erie County Medical Reserve Corps and Western New York Stress Reduction Program. Operates the County-run Ambulance Service. Provides outreach through the Reach out to 911 program. EMS Staff responds to emergencies and disasters around the county including MCI-Mass Casualty Incidents, School Bus accidents and those events requiring specialized emergency medical services and/or coordination of EMS resources.

Enforces the law and defends the interests of the United States according to the law ensures public safety against threats foreign and domestic provides federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime seeks just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior and ensures fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans.

Assists groups and organizations, schools, and businesses after a crisis, disaster, or a critical incident. Team members certified in Critical Incident Stress Management immediately assess the needs of individuals and the group affected at the scene of the incident. A Critical Incident Stress Debriefing will take place 24-72 hours after an incident and provides a confidential format for individuals to discuss the incident as it relates to their thoughts, perceptions, and feelings, in order to reduce the impact of individual or group stress.

Responsible for responding to the scene of an incident to perform preliminary investigation on cause and manner of death, then releases a final autopsy report once investigation and testing is completed. The coroner's office may take custody of a person who has died in various circumstances including but not limited to a young person without documented medical history, a person with no legal next-of-kin or one that cannot be determined or identified during the initial investigation, or any person who has died due to unnatural circumstances. Also plays a role in developing the county’s Mass casualty/Fatality Plan in preparation for any catastrophic incidents, which could be caused by natural, accidental, criminal or infectious means. Does not provide copies of death certificates, contact NYS Department of Health or the local town, village, or city clerk in the municipality where the death occurred.

Messages are sent to members of US Military on behalf of family members to advise of emergencies at home, request presence of the military person, and provide verification of emergency for military command.

Provides training on issue-specific traumas and the trauma of catastrophe. Offers long term support training of local caregivers information on coordinating disaster/crisis response, intensive consultation by phone/fax deployment of crisis response team anywhere in the United States. Serves the national and international community.

Provides a support group, in person or virtually, for individuals who are grieving over the loss of a pet.

Facilitates emergency communication and provides emergency information and referrals as well as emergency financial assistance for active military and their families.

Provides the county with 911 emergency services, fire and ambulance services, communication before and during emergency/disaster situations. Also provides the training of emergency personnel and overseeing emergency preparedness within the county.
