NEW YORK STATE MENTORING PROGRAM | NEW YORK STATE MENTORING PROGRAM

Offers school-based one-on-one mentoring. The mentor program trains mentors, mentees, and school staff. Mentors and mentees meet at the student's school with the support and supervision of a site coordinator.

SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM | SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

Encourages youth to establish a good work ethic through employment and workshops. Promotes punctuality, teamwork, how to follow rules and regulations, as well as respect of self, co-workers and supervisors. At- risk youth are selected between the ages of 14-18. Interviews are held in May and orientation in June. Employment is seven weeks, Monday-Friday. Worksites are established within the community at local churches, schools, agencies, parks and beaches. Workshops are given throughout the program in areas such as Banking, Job Attitudes, Career Goals, Job Interviewing and Resume Writing. Upon completion of the program is an Awards Lunch where every youth receives an award. Call for further information.

RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT CENTER | MERCYFIRST

Provides a highly structured, nurturing, corrective experience for males, ages 12-16, who have serious adjustment difficulties. Assists in educational, social and coping skills for reunification with family and community. Special programs for hard to place juvenile delinquents.

ALTERNATIVES FOR YOUTH | FAMILY SERVICE LEAGUE - BAY SHORE FAMILY CENTER

Provides home visiting case management to at risk youth and works to prevent further involvement in the juvenile justice system. Services include, but are not limited to, informal counseling, including parenting, 1:1 anger management, school advocacy, tutoring, substance abuse, counseling and recreational programs. Services are offered in both English and Spanish.

SITE BASED PROGRAM | BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF LONG ISLAND

Site Based Programs match volunteer mentors to children in need of a positive role model. Matches meet on-site in a supervised setting and are professionally supported by a program team member throughout the duration of the program. Matches meet regularly, where Bigs provide homework assistance, friendship and model positive behavior. Programs can include college mentoring, high school mentoring and workplace mentoring.

Offers a temporary home for 11 to 18 year old children who are court mandated. Provides a school program, individual counseling, and group dynamics. The Our Lady of Peace Academy is a free standing alternative school for grades 7 through 12. Individualized instruction and private tutoring is provided by qualified teachers.

ANGER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM | ANGER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

Offers a workshop series on anger management to Nassau and Suffolk County residents. Through a variety of activities, participants will learn skills to manage stress and anger while developing empathy, better judgment and impulse control. Provides strategies for conflict resolution and communication training. Offers a variety of formats (one day class, 12 week series or individual coaching). Accepted by the court system, CPS and probation departments.

Probation Officers process and investigate youths who have been in trouble by being truant from school, runaway or incorrigible who require supervision. Works with client and family to resolve the situation by mentoring, guidance or will refer to out side counselling. Parent or legal guardian can refer youths to the PINS program.
