Committed to the development of the intellectual potential of gifted children. It brings together two important elements of education for the gifted: extraordinary teachers recruited from leading high schools, middle schools and elementary schools in the metropolitan area and university-level facilities. These two factors, combined with an administrative and psychological team schooled in the needs of gifted children, give the Long Island University program unique strengths in producing positive benefits for young people admitted to the program. The Center for Gifted Youth's underlying philosophy should be understood by all considering its program for their children. The Center is committed to the development of the intellectual potential of each child. Its purpose is to provide learning experiences for children with superior intellectual ability that will deepen and extend their intellectual interests, as well as develop the skills of independent learning. Classes are taught at a faster pace and in greater depth than in most schools. The program is designed to augment programs in local schools. In addition, the Long Island University Center for Gifted Youth is aware of the role of parents in ensuring the success of their children. To help parents with this task, a number of services are offered. Parents may enroll in a variety of workshops, which are scheduled to run concurrently with the regularly held sessions of the youngsters. Long Island University Center for Gifted Youth has two psychologists on staff who lead these workshops, which are designed to allow an exchange of information and perceptions about the responsibilities, challenges, problems and joys of raising gifted children. Past meetings have included such topics as school problems, enrichment alternatives, the social and emotional factors of being gifted and sibling rivalry. Participation in all workshops and meetings is voluntary and provided at no extra fee. The psychologists are also available to meet with parents on an individual basis to discuss specific concerns. For income eligible women, this program provides pregnancy testing, ultrasound, vitamin supplements, nutritional evaluation, regular medical check-ups, counseling, baby care instruction, childbirth classes, and other services.

Offers a program in partnership with the Nassau County Emergency Medical Services Academy. This program is the approved New York State Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) course which will prepare you to become a certified EMT. During 132 hours of class, students will complete the American Heart Association CPR course. In addition to classroom training, students must complete a clinical experience of 10 hours in an emergency room of a local hospital and may have an opportunity for a ride-along. Students must also complete three on-line classes, provided free of charge by FEMA. To qualify for the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) certifying exam, students must attend all classes, complete all assignments, have a clear (no felonies) background check and pass the final written exam and practical skills exam. Students who pass the NYS exam will receive Emergency Medical Technician certification from NYSDOH to perform emergency care for and transportation of injured or ill patients. Medical supplies are additional. Student must be 17 years of age by the written exam date. Provides diagnostic evaluations to children birth to age three who are suspected of having developmental delay or have a medical diagnosis which can lead to developmental delay. Early Intervention provides therapies and other services to children and their families who require them based on state eligibility requirements. Therapy is provided as necessary. Referrals to pre-school program are provided.

FEMA may offer Temporary Housing Units such as travel trailers or manufactured housing units. These units are property of FEMA. Occupants may be eligible to stay in these FEMA-provided units for up to 18 months from the date of the disaster declaration while securing a permanent housing plan.

CAP picks up older adult residents of the city of Beacon who do not drive, and transports them to OFA's Beacon Friendship Center at Forrestal Heights. Also, any older adult that does not drive and regardless of whether they attend the Friendship Center, may be eligible to be transported to Walmart or Shop Rite in Fishkill once per week for one hour of shopping.
