Senior Benefits Information Centers (SBICs) help adults 60 and older, and those caring for the elderly, achieve a better understanding of Medicare health plans and prescription drug coverage (Part D prescription drug coverage, Medicare Advantage, Medic-Gap). Information and counseling is provided about different types of government programs, including federal and state financial assistance programs, and county-wide benefits. You can meet one-on-one with a trained counselor at one of our library-based locations. Spanish interpreter can be made available by appointment.

Provides free child care resource and referrals to parents or guardians who need child care, an overview of available options, consumer education, information on financial assistance, and resource development and recruitment. Families in need of child care can access Council's services by telephone, through the internet at Council's website, email, mail and fax or in person for child care options that best meet the family needs. Low income parents are given information about eligibility for child care subsidy through the Nassau County Department of Social Services (NC DSS) as well as information from the continuously updated child care provider database regarding sliding scales, scholarships and multi-child discounts at various child care facilities. Each parent that calls the Council is offered information on Early Intervention services and/or the Early Childhood Direction Center for children with special needs, current financial information including Earned Income Tax Credits, Child and Dependent Care Credits, and Child Health Plus as well as referrals to assist them re: many other issues concerning the family (ex. legal, domestic violence, mental health, child abuse, etc.).

Empowers adults to reach their highest potential as learners, parents, consumers and citizens through education and technology. Courses are offered in: English For Speakers Of Other Languages; Adult Basic Education; Preparation for The General Education Development Test (GED® Test); National External Diploma Program; Guidance and Counseling Services and Workplace Skill Development. In addition the Long Beach Literacy Zone and Family Welcome Center provides assessment, case management and support services. Provides advocacy to resolve any educational problems including those related to academic failure, a disability, emotional problems, developmental delays, homelessness, return to school after hospitalization or incarceration, re-entry of dropouts, discipline issues such as suspensions, school challenges of residency or guardianship, school transportation problems, etc. Resolves problems in public or private schools, pre-school, and the Early Intervention program. Services can be obtained year-round and parents are encouraged to still call during the summer.

Hosts child safety seat checks at various locations across the town. Certified technicians, along with representatives from the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, are on site to inspect car seats and provide parents with essential information about child passenger safety.
