The Child Care Resource and Referral provides information and referrals as well as training, advocacy, and education to meet the needs of children, families, businesses, and providers. Our offices are located in Elizabethtown and are open from 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Provides information and facilitation to community leaders, program directors and others who aid seniors in their community to initiate services, resources, and information to help them stay in their homes and connected to their communities for as long as safely possible.

Provides a meal, once a month for those in the community who are in need. A three-day supply of food is also given. Also serves a special holiday meal on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Donations of food are always accepted.

This Department is responsible for issuing all building permits and certificates of occupancy, conducting inspections and enforcing many aspects of the Town Code.

The Adult Partial Hospital Program (PHP) provides comprehensive evaluation and intensive, short-term treatment to adults 18 years of age and older with acute psychiatric illnesses including psychosis, eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders. The program functions to avert or shorten inpatient hospitalizations, providing a structured, supportive environment for those who can live in the community and can be treated outside of the inpatient setting. The program is staffed by an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners in psychiatry, social workers, psychologists, nutritionists, and occupational, recreational and creative arts therapists.

Provides respite services to developmentally disabled youngsters who exhibit skills deficits and/or severe behavioral problems and are in need of services beyond the normal school day. Also provides individual programming in the areas of behavioral intervention, self-care skills, communication skills, pre-academic skills, and functional academics.

Provides comprehensive early childhood program for children 4 years old and three year olds if space permits, residing in Wantagh, Levittown, Farmingdale, Hicksville and Massapequa. Family Service worker is on-site.

Offers supported housing and support services to homeless individuals and families with a diagnosed serious persistent mental illness with possible co-occurring substance abuse disorders. Assistance is offered with daily living skills such as money management, vocational/educational, symptom management, apartment management, and parenting in order to enable residents to live the most self-sufficient lives possible.

Provides incentives for the development of new businesses and the expansion of existing businesses in New York State. Assists businesses in identifying creative solutions to problems, enhanced opportunities for growth and realization of short and long term goals.

Offers approximately 9 miles of hiking and biking trails which is part of Long Island Greenbelt Trail System, bird watching, horseback riding and cross country skiing.

Offers an after school youth development program which focusses on media and technology workshops, teacher trainings, free screenings, and professional production house services to the community.

Provides five scholarships for dependents of the firefighters, police officers, port authority officers and emergency medical services personnel who lost their lives responding to the World Trade Center terrorist attacks. The scholarships will provide full tuition, room and board at New York University

Educates students within the school district boundary.

DBCH Provides routine childhood vaccinations and recommended adult vaccines. Also officers travel vaccinations for those who will be traveling out of the county.

Accept Food Stamp applications, determine eligibility for the Food Stamp program and allotments, and issue Food Stamp EBT cards. This EBT card enables low-income and indigent households to purchase nutritious foods. Amount of food stamps issued varies with family size and income.

The building department monitors new building conditions and construction, and oversees the maintenance of older multi-family structures. Also enforces the state and local building codes, housing standards and ordinances, to the review of applications for permits of new buildings, repairs, alterations, signs, and rooming houses, in addition to electrical and plumbing work. The building department accepts complaints from tenants about conditions the landlord fails to resolve.
